Tns300 Dvd Or Tns310 Dvd

I'm less than happy with the accuracy of my current TNS 300 software.

(my satnav attempted to guide me the wrong way down a one way street the other week and this week I drove past a few motorway service stations that it didn't know about, but they are years old!)

Is it worth going for the latest software update?

If so, can I use the latest TNS 310 (with traffic plus) or do I have to stick to TNS 300?

I currently drive a T3-S on an 05 plate and my DVD is TNS 300 2004-2005 ver.2.

Thanks in advance.

Your experiene using the Toyota Sat Nav is the similar to mine. I have been taken up farm tracks, turned into a builders yard. I have been sent back and fore between roundabouts. I get an AA route now, set the sat nav but ignore it if it seems to send me off route etc. It is handy in towns at times but as you say look out for one way systems. I would not update the TNS. I think Tom Tom is a good but even that can give false information on occasions. By the way mine is better since the dealer changed some settings but it is still far from perfect.

You can easily update the TNS300 to the TNS310 software. After that the system will report it's an TNS310. Motorway junctions have a renewed kind of display which is much clearer than before. Information about service stations etc is depending on the mapping services in your country and if you using the latest edition of the software it should not make a big difference if you use TomTom, Navigon, TNS or whatever navigation software you like. I used the TNS300 (now 310) side by side with both TomTom 5 and Navigon 5 (both on a Ipaq 4100) and found the TNS faster and much better if you miss a turn. Also the readability of the simple monochrome TNS display is far better than the highly detailed info the PDA is throwing at you, even in the sun. You still have to pay attention to the road, don't you?

I can only speak for here in the Netherlands but the TNS310 DVD certainly knows a lot of newer roads (they have to exist for 1-1.5 years to be on it which is common to all software) and I'm quite pleased with the 2005-2006 v.1 version of the TNS310.

Next week we are over in the UK so if my girlfriend does not get lost with the car while site-seeing during my attendance of a paracending competition, I think the TNS310 does its job well. So far she is very pleased with the system while driving on her own so I have a peaceful life...... :)

Just my personal experience!

Thanks for the replies gents.

I suppose I'll keep my eye out for a more up to date TNS data disc.

Can you tell me how I check what version it reports itself as?

When I check the DVD info, it just reports the version of the disc.

I've not noticed my TNS300 report itself anywhere, but it is to be found elsewhere....

The manual that comes with the disc has the version on the front cover.

If you don't have the manual then turn the ignition on, pop the plastic guard plate out from infront of the

DVD player (underneath the front passenger seat), slide the disc eject button to the left and out comes the disc...it will say what version it is on the disc.

The guard plate pops back on easy enough too.

lastest version disc available? is a tns310 software is version1 2005 - 2006 ver 1

Do you know when this disc was issued?

I've been pestering my local Toyota dealer for the past few months (since I had heard an update was imminent). I was told August when I first checked back in April. In August, I was told October.

Finally, after several additional follow-up calls, I was told (two weeks ago) that the disc is at last available to purchase (for approx €170). This leads me to believe that it may be a 2006/2007 version; it apparently has much-improved coverage of the Irish road network.

Have any UK dealers received a recently issued disc?

Eddy

Excellent reference; many thanks!

I've now confirmed that there is a new 2006-2007 disc which includes the full coverage of Ireland not offered by 2005-2006, and just ordered it. The price was a reasonable €159 including VAT and courier delivery.

Interestingly, it looks like there is also a CD-based Ireland-only update for TNS200 users, again with full coverage; the cost for that is about €90.

They quote 5-day delivery, so fingers crossed it will be here before Christmas.
