Just Upgraded The Lights!

Well I got a bit ticked off with the lightbulbs, they were crap and as the nights will be drawing in sooon, i thought i might as well upgrade the light bulbs while i can still feel my fingers. I was considering changing to HID but I didn't want to void my warranty so i thought i'd give it a miss.

Went and plumped for a set of osram silverstars, both the mainbeam and dipped on corolla e12's are H7. £30 for all four and WAHOO!!! they are SOOO GOOD

i was driving along the motorway yesterday and pulled up alongside another corolla and my dipped beam must be a good 15-20m longer. On main beam its just ridiculous, the lights are so bright!! You can see way further than before.

no problems installing even if you have the abs pump in the way on the drivers side!

Anyhow if anyone is interested I can recommend you get it from http://www.carbulbs-direct.com service is spot on and price is good too. If you PM me I can send you a discount code.

how did you get original bulbs out? I considered upgrading my lights but there doesnt seem to be much room to play with???

Any chance you know how to access the front indicators aswell?

Any pictures of the lights in action?

will post pics at the weekend.

the passenger side, i removed the Battery and access is good, you can get the lights out no problem.

the drivers side is a bit more of a struggle as the abs pump is in the way but again you just pull connector off and you can fish the bulb out. if you've got big hands then a pair of bent nosed pliers might come in handy to pull the plug off the bulb. the side lights are below the dipped lights and are easier to get to IMO.

Well mine came in the post today - same as above and again thanks for the discount code nrgizerbunny  !

A simple job took around 30 minutes :ffs: ! After alot of swearing and hitting stuff with my fists I managed to get them changed :D !

They are a right :censor: to change. If you can manange to get your hand to fit in the gap you have to remove the rubber cover and then inside the plastic cover about the size of a can of coke you have to pull the connector of the back and release the clips. The clips on mine was realy stiff and it didn't help that you couldn't see how to unclip it either. Why they designed it like this I will never know?

But enough about the moaning as it was well worth it - they are much brighter than stock and also light up more of the road.

For there price they are brill ..... i'll get some pic's up in a bit  !

Do they last as long as the regular bulbs? Have anyone seen a test? I will choose these next time if they last as long as the one Toyota sells.

if you get a mirror in there and have alook to see how they unclip its not that bad. In fact I think dave would agree with me in saying once you've done one the rest are "more straightforward" - Pics coming tonight of mine!

we'll see if mine or dave's is bigger  beam that is!

Its a pain to secure the bulb back in, the fitting is stupid...

It should be straight in and twist like the fog lights!.

I guess they last around the same if not longer being built to a higher spec  !

Dave did you go for HID?

I changed the lights on my corolla about a year ago to osram silver star, the drivers side give a nice crisp beam but on the passengers side its a bit blured, when i shine the lights up against a brick wall you can tell the difference, i'll try to get a pic soon. Anyone know why is happening? the car went in for a mot 2days back and the bloke said it was ok

Cheers

SANJ WROTE::

"the drivers side is aimed lower than the passenger side because of on coming traffic - this is normal."

Both should be of same height surely, the beam pattern shoots the beam over to the N/S.

£70 odd quid for beam convertors for cars without ridged lenses!!

Just so you know :)
