Possible Problem With My Auto Box

Hi Guys,

Odd problem has cropped up on my auto box the last couple of days, it changes gear too quickly!

Usually if i floor it, it kicks down and then changes gear at about 6k in normal mode and about 7k in sport mode. At the moment its changing at just over 4k most of the time. On the odd occation it will change at 6 or 7k but there doesnt seem to be any reason or patten i can find.

Any thoughts?

The majority of auto box problems are down to the fluid. Have you checked the level?? When was the last time it was changed. If in doubt change the fluid. It could be a cheap fix. Not sure if the celica has an external or internal oil filter, but if it`s an external one change that too. If it`s internal you`ll have to drop the sump pan. Probably best left to the pro`s.

Thanks Dak i'll check that out, no idea when it was changed last so i'll get that done.

Was having a quick look and noticed that the throttle cable was quite slack. The peddle still feels fine but could this be a problem?

On some cars the throttle cable has a splitter fitted in line with another cable coming off it. This controls the kick down operation. Again i`m not familiar with the celica autobox operation. So it may be worth adjusting it. Can`t do any harm. :D

Ahh that would add up. If its slack going to the kickdown control then it wouldnt hold it in gear so long i guess as it would think im just driving normally (yeah right!)
