Alternative Side Repeaters For The Yaris (1st Generatio)

Hi!

I'm all new to this forum and I hope that I can get some help/advice concering the side (fender) indicators/repeaters on the first generation Yaris (I've got a 1.0l 2001).

The unit is sealed, as you probably already knew, and I'm thinking of replacing it with another indicator to be able to use a silver bulb or leds instead. There is a indicator for the Ford Escort that looks quite alike but I guess the biggest problem is to make it fit in the hole in the fender. Or are there indicators (WITH replaceable bulbs) from another Toyota model that will fit?

Do you guys have any good advice?

If you want clear ones, then you have the problem mentioned above.

If you want black or blue lenses there is a company called need for speed who sell them about £20 per pair.

Surely if you are going to mess around trying to get lenses to fit, wouldn't it be easier to unseal the yaris lens, take out the bulb and orange inside cover (if it has one) and buy some silver indicator bulbs and do it that way.

I don't have an answer to your question,

I have one of my own to ask. :P

Does the Yaris have biggest/ longest/ pokey outy side indicators on the world? I've been looking and I haven't seen another car with ones bigger.

They are designed that way to provide aerodynamic lateral stability when travelling at high speeds ;)

Whatever you do you must never remove them or replace them with any non standard type or you will ruin the road handling of your Yaris :)

The New Yaris with its enhanced aerodynamic design does not have such large side repeaters

Be careful if you go ahead and change them ;) :D

It should be possible to drill holes (~1 mm dia) around the integrated socket and cut it loose with a really sharp and thin blade. Then it's possible to change to a silver/chrome bulb or led and glue it back with super glue.

Spray the existing ones silly :P Or buy a spare set of standard ones and spray? Sure you could get a new set for roughly same price if not cheaper on eBay! Then just spray them with light tinting spray from halfrauds or wherever!

You can take them to bits, but you need to heat them up to melt the glue iirc.

There is a thread from way back soon after I joined. I made an **** of myself in it...
