Squaky/chirpy Noise From The Engine Bay

Not sure if anyone can help me and its not really anything too serious but its just a bit irritating LOL

Ive noticed the last 2 days after a night of rain when starting the car I get what can only be described as a squeaky/chirpy noise from the engine which goes away after driving the car for a few mins.

Its kind of like the belt slipping but not as loud or as harsh sounding. This used to happen on my MR2 but that was understandable due to the vents on the engine lid which used to let rain pour into the engine causing the belt to slip when starting the car.

Hasnt happened in dry conditions, but even though the celica bonnet has a vent Id be very surprised if much water is getting in there?

Any ideas?

Do a search for AUX Belt on here make sure it fits the description, then go buy yourself a bottle of WD40!

Ah I can see that this is quite common after doing a search for aux belt. Appologies for not opening my eyes before creating this post but I was on my way out the door to work and thought that this would be something that not many other people had encountered - WRONG!

After reading about a belt change and tensioners leaking etc, is it also possible that the slight slipping is normal when starting the car up in the wet or should I take it back to the garage (still at the start of a 6 month warranty)?

It pee'd down all last night and it only did it very slightly this morning.

Thanks again and sorry for being blind when it comes to seeing posts that already exist on this matter!

No probs fella! Without knowing it was the AUX belt you probably would have never come across an appropriate post. I would have picked out a suitable post myself and linked to it normally. Obviously feeling lazy that day!

If your warrenty is with Mr T, then take it back, if its with a back-street garage you'll probably already know more about it than they will - 2 choices, tell them what to do with it, or don't bother going at all - depends on how competent you think the garage is you got it from!

CraigT: I have a squealy aux belt that squeals like hell when it's raining - seems to be a common problem - my belt seems fine but the hydraulic tensionner is leaking/broken so apparently needs replacing. My car is also outside warranty being a 2000/W

Mine started 6months ago with a slight squeal, I used the easy solutions of turning the radio up, but now it's got to the stage where I can do most of the 26mile journey to work before it shuts up.

FYI: Toyota (Kings group - Southampton/Winchester) quoted £39.16 for the belt and £115.92 for the tensionner and £285 including fitting and VAT.

There is some more information in my post here about a DIY replacement...

BlackKnight posted this link:

Showing you the belt layout and tensionner location.

I intend to give it a go this weekend...

It's also worth noting that in the same post, Timmy190 also suggested that this was a known fault and possibly may, in some cases, be incurable. He seems to have had more than his fair share of grief.

Someone told me Toyotas were reliable
