Speaker Upgrade - Advice Needed

Hi all,

Just upgraded my sound system with a JVC CD/MP3 head unit with 4x50W output channels. It sounds, well, OK but compaired to my last car (Ford Scorpio Ultima) it is pretty crap really but I know it is because of the Speakers. What I am after is a series of recomendations from anybody that has up-rated their speaker system. I am not looking at a serious settup here (huge base amp/bin etc) but just a nice replacement for the existing Speakers, perhaps you have seen a special deal somewhere that would suit. Also, what size are the Speakers in the Avensis?

Thanks in advance!

I have 6.5" Alpine components in my front doors. They require slight triming of the inside door card as there is minimal room! But nothing that spoils the look from the exterior.

I think standard is 5". I know you don't want an amp, but I'd highly recommend a small 2-channel to run the components.

Speakers run off the headunit compared to through an amp is like the difference between night and day.

I'm not big into ICE but I did have to replace the O/S drivers door speaker some while back.

I bought an end of range/display set of Speakers from Halfords of the same size as the MrT ones.

Having drilled out the rivets holding the old one into the door (nice surprise that !) I then cut the centre out of the MrT speaker and fitted the Halfords unit into that. Voila, one cheap adapter and no need to hack the door or weather shield apart. Rivetted the speaker back into place and no sign that I'd been there other than having to solder the original speaker wires onto the new one as the MrT multiplug doesn't fit the Halfords unit.

Doesn't answer the question of what to fit but will give you some idea of what to expect when you open the door trim up.

Guns n Roses sounds fine until the B-post trim starts to rattle - if only it would do it in tune :)
