Hi,

Got my car back from an inspection done at toyota today. Ive had the car a few months and started to notice this rattle. Anyway, the said that there is sever damage done to the top end of the engine, due to running on low oil, and it will need further inspection to see the damage. They said i need a new auxilery belt (dont know if thats right) and a belt tensioner? They said it could be cam shafts or a new engine, but its bad??!!

What on earth would you do??!!!

Sorry to hear that - you must be very unhappy about that to say the least. What mileage has it done?

I had a few problems with the cams on a VVTLi when it was still under warranty fortunately, but not heard of problems with the VVTi; I assumed they would be bullet proof given that they're essentially the same engine as the 190, but under considerably less stress.

Hope you get it sorted without too much expense.

Tony

I'd always wondered if the 7th Gen would be as well built as the sixth and I'm hearing about a few probs with it.

You'd have thought Mr T would have got it right for the last ever celica
