Hiace 2.4d Engine Whine

[size=4]Hi, i have as the title of this post suggests i have a whine on my Hiace 2.4d van, it is a 2000 V plate done 158000 miles, so its only just run in !!! The whine increases with engine speed and is not linked to the gearbox as it does this with the clutch dipped and when stationary. I have been down to my local toyota dealer (Gordan Lamb in Chesterfield) and they think it is either the Alternator bearings or the Vaccum pump which sits on the front of the alternator. Having priced these up at £177.00 + Vat for the alternator and £461.00 + Vat for the pump i was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what was the cause of it.

Also if anyone could recommend a company to get the parts cheaper it would be much appreciated.

Possibly rear diff bearings or wheel bearings as these would still be noisy even though the clutch is dipped due to wheels still rotating. I cant remember if the front wheel bearings are adjustable to take up the freeplay but I'm sure the dealer you took it to would've ruled these symptoms out during a roadtest/VSR check.
