Mp3 / Ipod

I am really struggling to get any information on how to do this from Toyota SA.

I am told by an iPod reseller that FM transmitters will soon be illegal in South Africa, and indeed already are illegal in the UK and USA. Is there anyone out there who can confirm whether this is true or not?

Is there anyone who has had good success using FM transmitters? Is the sound clear? Are there issues with interference from other vehicles or radio stations?

Is there anyone who has a cable solution - i.e. a cable plugging into the line-in at the back of the radio? Neither Toyota nor Panasonic have responded to my queries regarding the specifications of their radio.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated...

Apart from this, the Verso is great! :D

Yes they are illegal here however I read a while back on the BBC website that the law was changing. The quality is just a bit better than radio quality IMHO.

One of the best bit's of kit to buy would be the 'Connects 2' or to buy a brand new HU with an AUX input  !

I have one of these Tecknet FM Transmitter in a T180 - but I have never used it in the UK of course - as that would be illegal.....

However, for the money, in countries where it is legal, it's pretty good - given how rubbish the T180 Panasonic audio system is.

I have ordered one of these Dension

Will get it in a few days, but still haven't decided if i should try installing it myself or at the dealership.

Looks pretty promising, it even claims to be CD-Text compatible and if that is so, the ipod cradle could be mounted in a glove comp. totally out of sight.

I'll keep you posted when I have tried it out.

Cheers

As far as i know its only the wireless FM modulators that are illeagle.. the wired ones are ok.

I have a 10 disc mp3 cd changer connected by a wired fm modulator and i have a roof mounted dvd player connected by a wireless fm modulator, both run with the standard headunit etc.. no interference on either from any other signal, and the sound is as good as any fm radio station.... not quite cd quality, but still very good imo.

Well, now it's in :D (Dension ice->link Plus)

Did it myself, but it took quite a few hours to figure everything out.

Thanks to Toyta publications it was possible to piece it all together.

Yes, ID3 tags are displayed on the W58810 head unit, Artis name as DISC name, and track name as TRACK :toast: (iPod Video 5G, Dension unit with yellow composite video lead)

Cable harness fitted perfectly (2rows of 6pins). Cables are long enough so that the Dension unit may be mounted just behind the glove comp. I just left the iPod cradle in the glove. comp. Out of sight.

Sound quality is just sooo much better than through a FM transmitter.

Playlists 1-5 are emulated as CD1-5, whilst CD6 enters a Dension setup menu.

The soundlevel was a bit lower than the radio, even at 4V level, but one can't get it all ... :P

Cheers

Just a word of warning - I have had the same fitted by a man who knows what he's doing...unfortunately after a week or two I began to notice the system cuts out every now and again and just says "no cd input" I'm told this is a software issue that has not yet been solved...'the man' suggests replacing with a simple "line in" solution instead...

Hi

I installed the connects2 CTATYIPOD002

iPod is 5G

Installation was simple though instructions from Connects2 were text only and I'd say crap.

All works

no ID3 tags on display just siple DISK and Track

Tracks are in the loop 1,2,3,1,2,...

And is hard to find where you are

If you've managed to reach the first one and try to move -1 then you get out of play mode and the only way to start it again is to change disk +1 -1

Sound is Ok, charging even after ignition is off for some time.

The unit is cheap compared to DesionicelinkPlus (100 compare to 180) -baught my in Germany

So now we are prepared for long journeys

Though ID3 tags would be nice.
