Fog Lights

I used them on Christmas Eve when we were driving home from the Pub (I didnt have a drip of alcohol) and the fog was less than 100m...more like 30m, if that - it was horrible. Have also used them once when there was so much spray on the dual carriageway that visibility was severely reduced and they really helped to see - dont normally use them in the rain due to the reflection but the amount of spray and lack of visibility was terrible

Hi there :-)

the official word is that front and rear fogs should only be used when visibility is down to 100metres,

also if there is real thick fog you should not use main beam as a lot of drivers do!

if you do do this the light hits the particles of fog and the light comes straight back at you, you really cant see past the end of your bonnet!

Have fun :-)

i use mine on the mr2 down dark back rounds when on a 'spirited drive' :D

basically because it has the fancy ones that turn with the front wheels, awesome as they point round the corner and keep the road lit, while the main lamps continue to point into the hedge bottom as you go round corners

  • 7 months later...

When it's duskish I have them on with sidelights, as they allow me to be seen better as the sidelights are so dim and mainbeams are too bright. In the rain/fog and country roads like people have said; they are useful.

Also... Looks like I'm the first to admit it (although I'm sure there are others who won't own up), but I occassionally switch them on because I think it looks cool... B)

I do think they can make your can look cool as they can make the car look lower imo but i do find it really annoying people driving bout in the middle of the day with them on! :censor: pointless! i tend to use my front fogs quite a bit when i driving thru country roads in the early early hours of the morning cos they help to see the bunnies  !!!!

I don't drive with them on in the middle of the day, unless it's a really dark, gloomy and rainy day, then like I said earlier; I have them in addition to sidelights.

Guys,

this light thinghy is interesting and shows how anyone individually makes use of lighting when driving...

Driving in the fog nightime is very tricky because generally the fog acts as a screen and just reflect the light str8 back into the driver's eyes. In your next foggy driving switch main projectors off altogether and just keep the fog lights on (thats why they are on an independent switch...) you will be amazed to see how much visibility you gain ...however the purpose of fog lights is mainly giving you more peripheral/lateral visibility...peripheral road clues become visible (particularly road sidelines) and used by ur peripheral visual field to make u keep driving (slowly!) forward. Anyway, on a diffrent matter, i've been doing some night driving in gritted wet roads in Scotland where there no over head lighting :censor: What generally happens is that the projectors becomes pretty coated of ******* lol and visibility is scaringly poor! I tried this: highbeams on + full beam tilt down + foglights on...It worked greatly! Excellent visibility due to the brightness of the highbeams and the peripheral lightin of foglights (tho all lights were screened off partially by the grit coating) In 100 mile nite driving no "complains" from incoming drivers!!
