Avensis Model 03-06 Self Resets Mpg Trip Computer?

I've had the Avensis since July, and I've noticed the trip computer's MPG calculator has reset itself twice on it's own accord. Normally it resets when you refill, but in these two instances it just reset the next time I started the car when I was parked on a flat, this time there was roughly a 1/4 tank of fuel, last time about half I think.

There is a Toyota technical service bulletin which mentions the average MPG trip computer may reset when travelling up a hill or down a hill, but not when restarting the car. The fix for the up/down hill reset is replacement with a new meter, but the new meter only resets when refueling with 25L instead of the 5L of the standard factory issue meter.

..or maybe it did reset on a hill but I didn't notice it until I restarted the car today I went up a mutli-story carpark, which could explain it I guess

Mine does it. I've noticed it does it after doing a lot of m-way driving and the mpg is around 45ish. Once i've done around a couple of miles stop start its goes back to 0 and starts working out the mpg again. Just got back of holiday yesterday mpg was showing 49.5 went up the shops this morning on way home it reset its self, its now showing 41.5.

i too have had the same. i have had 3 replacement computers but it never fixes the fault. i have given up now as it isnt that accurate anyway. i agree that it resets generally when i have reversed up a slope and switched off. when used again the computer resets.

but its not fit for purpose what else is wrong with the computer

lets hope its not inthe airbag control unit or abs etc

poor toyota design and poor dealership repairs ummm ummm
