Tyres

Yo

Needed new tyres on the front.

The spare was 185 but the others were 195's.

Have had 185's put on the front... They didn't have any 195's and were expensive. (difficult to obtain so I'm told)

But the 185's are standard tyres not heavy load or whatever. Rated at 550kg's.

Should I be concerned since with a passenger this puts me on the edge or over the weight?

Or is there so much safety built in plus I don't drive like a nutter that it's OK?

Cheers T

550Kgs per tyre... 2200Kgs for all 4...

How heavy is the Townace? and how heavy is your passenger that you think it puts you over weight??

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it ;)

Townace is just over 2 tonnes, with passengers can hit 2.6 tonnes, would recommend a minimum of 92 rating, also if you are involved in a accident the insurance company can refuse to pay out if you have the incorrect tyre rating on...

In my proffesional opinion i would agree with Room101 on this one.. I would say the vehicle should at least have "reinforced" tyres fitted as opposed to standard load, as carrying more weight than the tyre is designed for isn't recommended, however, it is true to say that the tyres WILL be able to carry more weight than the load index states* (but will reduce the life of the tyre) but the manufacture won't accept liability if a tyre fails because of this. It is also possible for an insurance company to refuse a claim on the same grounds, but this is very rare.

* All tyres are capable doing a little more than what they state they can as they are tested over and above any limits stamped on them.. i.e - load ratings and speed ratings etc. but going over these limits can't be sustained for great lenghts of time.

If this is causing you concern now, contact your insurers and tell them what tyres you have been advised to fit (don't tell them they are fitted) if they say it isn't what they would want, go back to the tyre dealer and tell them they have fitted the incorrect tyres for the vehicle and you want them changed ASAP, if they can't change them, ask them if they will refund your money if you get the correct tyres elsewhere and return their tyres to them... if they still refuse to exchange them/ refund you, tell them you are going to Trading Standards. (all this is assuming they never told you they were incorrect for the vehicle, if they did, you might have problems getting them changed).
