Hi I have just bought a 1.8 vvti auto avensis 2002,.

I have this annoying squeak from the steering wheel after I have been driving a while, but also another squeak from the steering wheel when in reverse at slow speed, like a loud squeak, abit like turning one of thjose driving game wheels in a amusement arcade, it feels a bit "dry" when you turn the wheel and then makes a squeaky grating noise (and it has power steering fluid in it, before some one wonders),apart from that the car drives very well.

It is on 70k, and just passed it,s taxi mot last week.

What is the noises please, could I have two problem?? P.s, apart from the noise is this safe|?

Any help appreciated as I am worried and skint thanks Tracy

The noise is generated from the steering rack and resonates up the column to sound like a noise from the steering cowling. Try searching the avensis forum for more info p.s. welcome to TOC!
