Picked Up My New Car Yesterday... A Few Pointers Please :-d

Very nice

Finally picked it up after waiting what seemed an age (although it was about a week really!) and love it. Its a 2002 model (so Mark I) with only 28k miles on the clock. So nice to drive, and comfortbale inside... the seats are the comfiest seats (along with Volvo's) I've sat in!!

The dealer thought the car had Sat Nav and we was messing around with the controls on the unit yesterday pressing the tip button in to try and get it to come on but it never did. Then he found out that the vermont had climate control instead of the Sat Nav, although the head unit is the same as the ones in the models that do have Sat Nav (GS, etc...). Can I get Sat Nav fitted to mine?? And is it worth it... I have TomTom at the moment

Also, just be interested to see what other Avensis owners did/do with their cars. What tips can you give me and also what can I buy for it!!!

Oh also... Parking Sensors. I see that you have limited view when reversing in the Avensis!! Have people had parking sensors fitted??

Cheers

GODSEND mate, :D get em fitted if your rear view is limited..:yes::thumbsup:

Absolutely agree, best thing ever did was fit aftermarket ones. If you have a local Netto Food Store, try there as I saw some on sale there. And being Netto they won't be expensive(didn't see how much they were).

I fitted the Quanan kit - 4 rear sensors (round) as reviewed by Autoexpress. Used Toyota templates off their website. Excellent performance. Have paid for themsleves already when they detected up a narrow pole in my nearside blindspot which I was just about to hit.

The Toyota prices are silly - nearly £800 for front and rear. In any case, you don't need the front and there are complications as you need a defeat switch to avoid them going off in traffic queues. Only gripe is the bleeper is high pitched which is bad for old gits like me with dodgy hearing at high frequencies. Solution was to place the bleeper under the glovebox, rather than in the boot.

Do a search on here for more info from others who have gone this way.

Welcome!

To be honest I'd stick with TomTom. I have the Toyota satnav (TNS200 - monochrome) fitted to my Avensis, and I also have TomTom which I much prefer. The display is loads better, and you can update it with speed camera locations and other POI's unlike th e Toyota one.
