First Proper Drive

Well , i just drove the new Tsport (g/f's ) back the 40 ish miles to Sheffield from Huddersfield along the A629, and have to say i am very impressed.

My car is a mk3 golf gti 8v , which although not the fastest car ,has great mid range power. I'd say the yaris is easily up there in the mid range @ 4-6k revs.

It handles pretty well with a bit of roll but settling nicley into the bends.

Already took the front Tsport Badge off and will get to work on the rears tomorrow.

From what i've read they're all stick on apart from the big T which may have pins, is this right?

one problem is a missing parcel shelf. any idea how much a new one will be from the stealership?

failing that has onyone got a standard one for sale? (no speaker holes but genuine stealth shelfs considered)

all in all a great little car , once you get used to the driving position.

 :D

A standard rear shelf from the stealership are about £160 or something completely ridiculous, you're best to keep your eye on eBay for a bargain!

On the rear, only the Toyota emblem may have pins on the back!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Not sure what phase or mk Yaris you've got but some1's selling a couple of parcel shelves HERE & I've heard Kerby's stealth 1s are pretty good so you could try sending him a PM

I think a genuine stealthshelf is £75 so best asking campervan nicely

FYI: If you're wondering who this mysterious "Campervan" character is, it's a nickname of Kerby (1 that he really loves)

Cant remember what he charged me for the shelf but it wasnt too much and was better quality than 'pro' ones and a perfect fit. He even cuts the holes out to be right for your Speakers.

I know he's kind-of busy at the moment so he hasn't been posting much. Probably best to send him a pm

Welcome to the club btw...

Seems as I'm already off topic, I might as well go all the way - I'm thinking about making the switch from my 1.0 Yaris to a 2.0 Golf GTi (or 1.9 GT TDi), how come you've done the opposite switch (albeit to a more powerful Yaris)? Are there any major positives/negatives?

i've still got my golf. the T sport is my g/f's.

as far as golfs go avoid the mk4 (98-2004) 2.0gti. it's fat ,slow and rubbish.

If its a mk4 you're after get the 1.8T or the turbo deisel.

if it's a mk3 try and find a 16v. they're pretty much the same insurance as the 8v but you get 35hp more.

I bought my 8v cos it had a FSH and only 57k on the clock (not bad for a 9 year old car) and is mint. I couldn't find a decent 16v but i'm an impatient bugger.

there's always the VR6 aswell. 176bhp and a mean v6 roar. doesn't like corners much tho' due to the very heavy front end.

having experienced a few weeks of T Sport tho' , i know what i'd spend my money on.
