Direction Of Air - Viscous Fan

Hello,

During its operation, does the viscous fan sucks air through the radiator or pushes it into the radiator? That is whether the air direction is from A/C grill to radiator or vice-versa.

Shall appreciate assistance.

Thanks.

It sucks air though the rad towards the engine...

It would have trouble pushing the air against the flow of air into the rad/engine at 70mph+ !!!

Theoretically any radiator fan can be electrically reversed (connection) to act as a pusher fan. Besides space limitation, is there any other thing need to be considered? for example, fan blade may now be prone to detachment from fan body (being attached with a retaining ring only)!

Some car models with a/c such as those of Audi and BMW comes with pusher fans. Are there any Ford or Vauxhall models with such options (cheaper to grab from salvage!)

If its a push fan then the fan would be mounted the bumper side of the rad, if its a pull fan it would be mounted the engine side, also the fan blades tend to be shaped diffrently, more curved for a pull (as a rule).

The side of mounting is fairly obvious and using any puller fan as pusher fan (by reversing wiring) may not be the optimum but should this work? and is there any possibility of fan balde coming out of the body and hitting the a/c gril?

Viscous fans dont work electrically , they are belt driven and spin to suit engine speeds. via a central thermal spring AFAIK . Fans that trip in using a heat sensor in the radiator are not viscous fans as such.
