New T4 - Which Satnav Does It Come With?

Hi,

I'm due to get a new (2007 UK model) T4 D2D mid Oct - I need to make sure I have the necessary satnav discs for France, Benelux & Germany, pretty much from day one.

I've spoken to the dealer a couple of times but he is far from sure exactly what it will come with.

I know it only has the small mono display so I think it is a TNS 200 but I'm uncertain as to whether it will come with a full Euro DVD/CD or just a UK one - does anyone know?

It should come with DVD I am told my 53 plate T4 was the last of those to come with a CD.. I am not sure if Europe will be on the DVD. I suggest you let the dealer know your requirements and do not accept the car till they give you what you want.

Thanks Chris, I have asked the dealer to give me a price to include the Euro maps but I guess he's reluctant to order anything until he's sure what is needed.

My 04 T4 came with the TNS300 DVD and it covers Europe.

I noticed the new facelift Avensis has moved it's sat nav display down and now uses the same display as the CD/radio/cassette player - would be interesting to know how the system simultaneously handles the sound system display and sat nav display. (pre 06 cars had a separate sat nav display on top of the dash which is slightly easier to look at if looking forwards at the road while driving, being lower though might shield the display from very strong and low sunlight coming from the rear). The new display also seems a little wider.

Also noticed the big MPG and trip calculator which was mounted with the sat nav display on top of the dash has been consolidated into the clock area on the speedo.

I have a new T180 Tourer. The sat nav audio will 'broadcast' simultaneously with the radio/CD however the volume of the sat nav can be set independently of the radio volume. I find it best to have the radio volume set so that the sat nav voice will always be the more prominent.

Sorry I can't compare the car with earlier versions, this is my first Avensis - very impressed so far.

Almost 7 times more data capacity on a DVD than CD, so I'm assuming you'd have to change CD's to drive across Europe, whereas all the map data is on a single DVD.

If it's a company vehicle that you'll change before an updated satnav DVD is available then no worries. If the car is out of your own pocket you may want to do the sums to see if you can get better value for your money, by not paying for the Mr T satnav option and avoid getting mad when you find out the updated map discs are almost 200 quid a piece.
