hi ive got a T reg Rav 3 door and my engine management light came on about 2 weeks ago. I took it to a diagnosis garage locally and he in formed me that it needed a replacement knock sensor but was unwilling to carry out the work because it was in an awkward place at the back of the engine block. Can anyone let me know firstly if they have had the same problem or secondly ever had to change one themselves. A reply would be most appreciated. Thankyou

I have a 3S-FE engine manual for the Celica (an engine shared with the RAV4 ), the knock sensor in mounted in the side if the engine block, its high up under the inlet manifold and would be tricky to get at, but with the under belly panels off it should be possible to replace :) .

Looks like a deep socket is the best way to go, if you go and buy the knock sensor from Toyota then pop off to a hire shop see if you can get a deep socket , Ratchet + extentions for the day :) .
