Pipercross Air Induction Kit

Hi all

My first post here after salivating over the Roadster for years and finally buying one several months ago! I've traded in a Fireblade RR3 in favour of the Roadster, so it was a serious leap of faith!!

I've just upgraded the air intake after reading several posts about how the stock airbox was a bit limiting on the amount of airflow. I opted for a Pipercross Induction Kit and after fitting found a marked improvement in performance (quicker off the block) and the sound was fantastic when you put your foot down!

However, I have found a flat spot in acceleration - when you hit around 4000 - 4500 rpm the engine tops out.

I tried resetting the ECU fuel mapping which helped the bottom end out a lot, but the top end flat spot still persisted.

I've spoken to a mobile tuner and he thinks that the air mass sensor is probably straining too much with that amount of air entering the engine so the air/fuel mix is getting screwed up.

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the same kind of issue, of if anyone had any suggestions on how to resolve it. I'm concerned about any damage that might be occuring and I'd hate to have to resort back to the stock intake!

Thanks in advance!

DC

Hi Giddlepin

Thanks for your help - I was going to clean this at the weekend just gone, but on Friday whilst driving to work my Engine Management warning light came on.

I popped into my local garage for them to download the codes and it was showing that the mixture was too lean. I checked out the MAF and it was really clogged up with oily gunk.

Bloke at the garage said that these filters rely on oils in the filter itself to trap dirt particles - then, when there is a little road spray after some rain this can dislodge into the air intake. (we had just had some rain Thursday/Friday).

I opted for the safe measure, cleaned the MAF and replaced my original filter and box.

Does this seem like a plausable scenario? Does this happen with all performance induction kits?

Thanks,

DC

Hey I know this is an old thread but for anyone else reading - the problem with some induction kits is, like the toyota guy said, that the filter relies on oils to trap dirt... the problem isnt about rain getting in there or whatever, the problem is atomized oil particles "smothering" the MAF which makes it play up.

Just a heads up for anyone else searching :)

Tom
