Noise On Full Lock

A couple of times yesterday, I've noticed that the car makes a noise when on full right lock. It's not happened before in the week that I've had it, and only happened yesterday when I was a passenger and o/h was driving, extra weight perhaps?

Thought it might be a CV joint, but I've done the usual turning in circles on full lock in the work car park this morning and all I could hear was the power steering. The noise I heard yesterday was more like a very light ticking noise rather than the clunk of a CV joint.

Any ideas? Or maybe just need to get used to the noises of an unfamiliar new car?

If it is the CV joint, how much are they roughly? (I'm used to getting them off eBay for the Micra for £20  )

I've got exactly the same thing on my car when turning right. Although on mine it does it regardless of whether i'm on full lock or not. I've got a funny feeling that it could be to do with a bearing but i'm not 100% sure!?

Same here! :help:

Although mine has devloped into a light grinding sound. Yvvan thinks it might be a sheild rubbing against something as his TS was doing exactly the same thing in Belgium.

More people seem to be getting this problem... Maybe it's an age thing? The SR is 4 years old now.

Well yeah there's power steering noise but also maybe that common fault of the guards on the brakes catching against the back of the discs? Heard a lot of people talk about that so maybe that?

Chances are it will be the Disk guard rubbing on the disk rather than being anything serious.

If you can get your hand in and just bend the guard slightly away from the disk - that normally gets rid of it.

Yeah, this is what Yvvan mentioned. I'll take a look at mine tonight because it's getting annoying. (I have to park in a multistory everyday - so full lock right turns ahoy!)

Yeah he's the Technical one out of the two of us

Talking of these noises, the Blue which is only 17,000 miles old makes a noise when going really slow on right lock like two marbles clicking together, nothing like a grating noise just some clicking

It is the power steering fluid being sucked.

When on full lock it is on the limit and therefore starts sucking a bit of air and makes the noise.

Hard to explain but very normal.

If you are concerned just ask Mr T to show you on one of the Yaris' they may have in stock.

I had a funny noise when I turned I was sure it was the CV Joint, I took it to Toyota.

Turned out the brakes wasn't fitted properly after a service.

I used to get the noise I was on about above when going round Roundabouts.. it def wasn't fluid release from the power steering pump.

- We could be on about different things... power steering pumps don't suck though - its just pushing all it cant use straight back into the reservoir....

Went out yesterday, this time with o/h in the car to try to make it do it again. Nothing this time. Full lock circles at 20mph with quiet apart from the power steering. The car did have new discs and pads fitting by the dealer before I bought it though.
