T180

Had the chance to drive a T180 Tourer at last today. A very impressive car, well equipped, very comfortable and plenty fast enough on the road. I'll be ordering one as my new company car to replace the BMW 320d SE Tourer that blew it's engine at 119,000 miles last week. The BMW garage have not even started work on the car one week after it was trailered in to them - they are swamped with broken BMW diesels.

Looking forward to my new Toyota. :)

Hi Shoto, congrats on a (hopefully!) fine choice. I've had my 2.2 (150) for just over 3 wks/1500 miles now and I am very pleased so far. Averaging almost 54mpg thus far, which is particularly pleasing as a private owner :D . That's a bit better than I was expecting with a daily commute of 30 miles each way, and no longer runs yet to boost the overall economy. That said, I am very gentle with it on the mway.

BMW diesel blowing at 119k - that's shocking...and to hear they have several broken ones!! A 320d was something I considered, but decided I didn't want to stretch to; I'm very glad I didn't now....

Hi Bristol,

Should take delivery of the T180 next week with luck. The BMW garage still haven't started work on the broken car. As a result I have one of their loan cars for the time being - but had to press for this. Very disappointing performance by what used to be a good dealership.

Hopefully Toyota ownership should be a better experience. Nice to hear from a Gloucester man, lived in Longlevens and then Churchdown when I worked at the Hospital in Glos. A really nice place, super people.

Cheers :)

Small world - I grew up in Longlevens (Park Avenue). Glad you have good memories of the place.

Can any of you guys with a 6 speed box have a quick look in the handbook and tell me exactly what oil is reccommended for the gearbox?

Regards

Well - straight from the manual. The 2.2D appears to be engine type 2ad-FTV and 2AD-FHV. For these engines, the manual transaxle (gearbox??) oil capacity is listed as 2.3L. Recommended oil type Toyota Genuine Manual Transmission Gear Oil LV API GL-4. Recommended viscosity SAE 75W.

The strong recommendation for the diesels is to use the genuine Toyota oil to avoid rattling and poor fuel consumption. They don't push this point so hard on the petrols, so maybe something in it?

Hope I've read the right bit, and hope that helps. :)

It is of great help thankyou.

That is a twin countershaft box that has a bit more backlash than convensional ones. The oil helps to damp some of it out.

Thanks again.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had the T180 since 3rd October and it's already approaching 2,000 miles. Starting to loosen up nicely, and it feels even faster. There is a tremendous surge of torque from around 2,000rpm. The car also provides a very relaxed drive making it easy to cover long distances and work long hours. I put in a 14 hour day yesterday and covered over 350 miles with no aches and pains at any time.

Average mpg is improving steadily, currently seeing 42mpg but I think this will improve further.

Very glad I choose the T180.
