Side Protection Strips And Parking Sensors

Recommended Posts

Posted

As I was leaving my local Toyota this afternoon after trying to get for another remote key for my new 5 door black, I saw a black with plastic side protection strips attached.

I didn’t know these were available, does anyone know if these are available for self fitting? and also what they cost? I believe that they are stuck to the doors.

Also is it possible to self fit the parking sensors? and also what they cost?

We have the plastic side strips and the parking sensors - they were a dealer fit. The sensors are really hardly necessary - a joke as I was giving the Aygo to my wife - but the side strips are mandatory for parking in Newcastle. The Aygo has such high flat sides that any dent would be very obvious in my opinion.

Side molding are usually pretty useless in preventing door dings, they are often at the wrong height.

The Aygo ones are relatively thick and although I accept that they will not stop the determined assailant, they do help a bit! I also rather like the look as it breaks up the side a bit.

I would have to disagree, I think the mouldings look terrible. Theres an Aygo where I work (who I don't know the owner of yet) with the side mouldings and I think it looks absolutley terrible.

As for the parking sensors I also think they ruin the look of any car, unless they are in a black part of the rear bumper. You can get rear parking sensors that fit behind the bumper and is invisible but I don't know if they work as well as I have never experienced them.

Well I have decided against the parking sensors, I dont need them.

I agree with Peter and I think the side strips look fine on the Aygo Black and I will go for them.

Now done 250 miles in mine and its a great little car.

I need to do something about the mirror though there is something wrong with it, I think its to small I find I constantly keep adjusting it. The wing mirrors are great though.

All a matter of taste! :D On the Carbon Quartz, the sensors are very discrete but I agree that they may well look like acne on a different colour!

If you have a look at the fitting instuctions for the side impact protectors it, a portal is on this website, they state that they can be painted. I would suggest you do this for any colour other than Quartz Grey.

Door mouldings can be bought for DIY fitment and if you like get them colour coded at any paint shop.

They are so easy to fit, dont bother trying to measure/line up as per the instructions its a waste of time and they arent usually in the right place/height on the doors.

All i do at work is run a length of masking tape front to back of the car at the right height and fit the mouldings (make sure the paint is free from dirt+grease)

As for parking sensors you can either buy the pre primered ones and a can of paint or just buy the colour coded sensors for your car. I agree you dont really need them on an Aygo but when they are fitted they are in no way an eyesore if colour coded.
