Engine Problem - Pinking

It seems that my engine is developing a slight problem. I've been hearing pinking occasionally at around 2800 RPM when the engine is under load and at about 1/2 throttle. I've only been using petrol from Shell or Esso (no supermarket petrol) and I've filled the tank several times and the problem is still there.

I was thinking maybe it is the knock sensor, does anyone know how I can check this?

Also, does anyone have any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

My car is an NA.

Have you tried resetting the ECU, just in case it's got in a muddle...
