Dead As The Proverbial Dodo...

Hello, a friend has an M reg Carina E Exec, which hasn't been used for some time.

It was going fine when it was left in its current position, but now, when I tried it with my (new) Battery, everything appeared to be working - lights, radio, roof, windows... - but the engine didn't turn at all.

Would anyone have any ideas as to why that might be?

Regards

Neil C

Rusted seized engine/clutch/starter,or hydraulic engine lock.......................how long since it has been run?

You could try putting it in 2nd or 3rd gear and moving the car backwards and forwards.

A few months at least, I believe.

Probably the starter has seized. A possible quick fix is to get a copper drift and gently hammer it against the starter motor casing. move it around the starter motor. That might well shock off any corrosion thats holding it.

Another alternative is to try bump starting the car - provided it`s not an auto - Run it round the block until it`s warm. Temperature and vibration might release the starter.

Other than that you`ll have to take the starter motor out and strip it.
