Hi guys,

I tried to fit some xenon bulbs I managed to get hold of today. But I couldn't do it because there was a metal clip surrounding the bulb and it wouldnt come out. Does anybody have any ideas on how to fit the bulbs as I am a newbie to all this?

Thanks.

Edit: The cars a Phase II Toyota Yaris - 1.3

Welcome to TOC

You have found the difficulty in changing headlight bulbs :D There is not much room to change the bulbs on a Yaris, but it sounds like you have done the hardest bit in removing the rubber boot

The clip should be squeezed in at the ends and swung out of the way.

The bulb should then come out easily.........................do not touch the glass of the new bulb,......(or the old one) as you will shorten its life.

Best of luck..........let us know how you get on

I just got ma dad to do them :D

What bulbs did u buy?

I bought H4 Philips Power 2 Night GT-150. Got free sidelights as well and they make a difference

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/product.p...=255&page=1

+ there legal and they use the same wattage as the stock 1's which means u wont melt and plastic in the headlight

BTW when my dad fitted the bulbs we discovered that my offside headlight adjuster motor runs permanently when the headlights are on

My dad phoned Toyota and it is a known fault. So its getting fixed under warrant but if it wasn't would cost somewhere in the region of £150 :o cause Toyota in there wisdom don't sell just a motor u need to buy and brand new headlight.

Has any1 else had/heard of this problem ?

The bulbs are just a cheap pair and sidelights of eBay. Got them off a mate for free.

I tried to swing the clip out of the way, but still no luck. Even tried to remove with pliers but still didn't budge.

Has body got any further suggestions?

Thanks in advance

You just pinch the ends, then clip should be able to move. Mess about with pliers and you'll proabably end up breaking them.

this is based on the drivers side light, try to get pics if you need then just let me know.

the metal clip should be in 2 parts, the left clip push to the right and then towards the windscreen and the right clip push to the left and then towards the windscreen.

They clip in and the clip needs to be squashed to the side to unhook it, befor it comes loose.

if you need pics let me know and i'll do what I can

there should be only 1 bulb in each headlight, 1 sidelight in each headlight and 1 indicator bulb.

unless you've got the new yaris then I couldn't tell you.

sidlight? is that the first light you have when you turn the lights on at the first turn then second one is the other bulb above it, or is that the high beam? i've got a phase 2 Mk1 yaris

Yes the sidelight is the one turn, then second turn is main beam, the main beam bulb also has a second filament in it which lights for full beam

Hope that answers your question!

2 mains, 2 sides yes. Tbh just upgrading the mains is good enough as the sidelights barely shed any light at all! However if you buy from certain sites, as recommended above, you get the sidelights free!

I'm back and this time "i've got bulbs" except i can't fit them! I've done the sidelights but the main headlights is quick pokey to get to. How easy is it to remove the headlight itself? I kinda broke one the plastic clips holding the light but it doesn't seem to made a difference to how well the light is held in place. Any help or advice would be champion!!
