I've just changed my front wipers and on the drivers side It has a little spoiler type thing bolted to it. It will not fit the new blade.

Any ideas??

I just changed the wipers on my car too the other weekend.

£3.59 (or something like that from Tescos) for a pair of 24 inch blades

and £3.59 for a pair of 16 inch blades

The spoiler is rivoted onto the original blades so you can't get them off unfortunately.

The spoiler stops the wiper lifting off the screen at high speed. Unless your regularly doing speeds in the region of 80 to 100 mph, don't worry about it.

I do a lot of travelling on the motorways - 85-90 is the norm. Will this be a problem??

Could do, but I find that I can't do those speeds in heavy rain anyway with a spoiler ;)

A coating of Rain-X helps repell the drops at high speed, and I've found that you can almost get away with the need for wipers

- the water just beads away.

I replaced only rubber part of the blades in Toyota service center.

Next year i replaced whole Wiper Blades with normal one (without wing).

So far i haven't any problems with wipers.

That's mainly because during heavy rain you will not drive with more than 100mph even in highway. \

If it is only dusting, even in speeds above 100mph wiper is still effective enough to clean windshield down to acceptable level.

Many years ago you could buy a clip-on plastic fins from Halfords to maintain the downforce on the screen. It did, of course, increase the wear and tear on the blades but it did clear more water if raining giving a clearer screen. Another downside to them is automatic car washes, they have previously pulled them off if not clipped on fully.

I got a pair of front wipers, including spoiler from Toyota for under £15. Halfords own make wouldn't fit my new shape Avensis - too thick for the wiper arm, plus Toyota were cheaper. Good quality wipers too.
