Testdrive: Yaris Turbo

I was until yesterday pretty sure my Aygo would be replaced by a 3dr Yaris Turbo, although I have always had a thing against the interior on the previous gen. Yaris, I have had myself thinking the performance might prove a remedy for it's estetic shortcomings.

The car only has 18000km on the clock, and comes with lightweight colormatched wheels, 16" winterwheels, tinted windows and a retrofitted BOV.

Although it's performance was very impressive, there where quite a few let-downs, one was the hum-drum enginenote once I got it up in the rev.-range, trottleresponse was also extremely jerky, letting up the throttle in say 30-40km/h in second meant the car was jumping all over the place, that would not be good come winter. The biggest letdown was however the seats, I thought these where supposed to be "performance" items? This felt more like a recliner, in a bus! Soft, and not very supportive, short seatingsurface and a high seatingposition was not at all sporty, nor comfortable. Actually, both me and my brother felt the Aygo to be roomier, and an altogheter better place to be after the testdrive.

In the end I ended up not wanting it at all, such a shame, cause the performance, roadholding and handling was indeed a very temping package.

They look like WedsSport SA-90 to me. ENVY sell them but will be pricey

They're nice, really nice, but like you I wouldn't want one.

As many of you know, we saw one at the 'Ring at Easter and were disappointed by its performance in that earpl's (admittedly stripped and tuned, but N/A) T-Sport was keeping up with and passed it on the hills. Say all you want about how stripped erapl's is but then remember that he claims I was catching him up those same hills.

Jaxx and I witnessed it all...

Bummer, but you're still lucky to have had a shot of a rare wee car.

PS Original thread is here. Apologies for the quality of the pics - passenger sear to an MR2 Turbo at speed is not condusive to steady pics! :D

The only thing different from the wheels on that Yaris and the WEDS wheel is the centre caps.. C_ONE do them aswell.. and they ARE quite pricey.

 they look well ghey up close. Pitty they weren't the real thing  but at least I recognised the wheel they were trying to copy :toast:

But the performance is somewhere in the region of 150Bhp give or take so couldn't that have just been down to Earpl being a good driver, and ****** the **** out of his engine

Pretty sure they would be fun to drive + sure a black version would be faster and drive better

A non-turbo TS is nothing compared to this, I would loose one at the first straight, and that would be all she wrote :D

  • 1 month later...

i wasnt impressed with the turbo to be honest

'lethargic' came to mind

obviously just had a blower and manifold thrown on...

really needs a proper dedicated turbo lump, with a decent turbo and low compression nudging at least 170bhp with 'room to improve' for the masses
