Rainwater In Footwell - Help!

Hi,

My R-reg 3-dr Corolla had a bit of a puddle in the drivers side footwell yesterday morning.

Now we did have an exeptional amount of rain on Sunday but having discovered this it explains the slightly damp/musty smell I've been noticing for a couple of weeks.

Anyone got any pointers on how to track down where the water is coming from?

The only dampness is on the floor of the footwell - I can't find any sign of it dripping onto the carpet from anywhere so I don't suspect it's somehow running down the inside of the door.

Pointers anyone?

Does the footwell have a drain hole somewhere that might have become blocked?

Could it be coming in from the drain grille at the bottom of the windscreen on the outside?

How easy is it to take up the carpet and refit it?

Cheers and TIA,

Jon.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my '99 SE corolla ( 3 door ). It turned out to be the plastic door lining behind the door trim. There was a split in the sheet, which when replaced cured the problem.

It worked on mine, maybe you have the same problem ?

If not, the best way to find out where the water is coming from is to use a watering can around the door seals ( with the door closed ) and see if any water enters the car that way.

Best of luck

Thanks Bos. Have been and had a check round and the door seals, linings etc. look fine.

There was some dampness under the rear seats but only very slight compared to the front. I've found under the car a rubber bung covering a 2" hole which I've removed and managed to drain loads of water out. This should help the drying out a bit.

It's been suggested elsewhere that the fault may lie in a bocked sunroof drain pipe and that the solution is to blow compressed air up the pipe from the lower end. Anyone know where the outlets are for them? I can see the inlets at the top but have no idea where they might come out.

Cheers,

Jon.
