My Daughter has just bought her first car a Yaris T2 54 Reg. Unfortunately it's fitted with a tape player and she would like a cd player. Has anyone carried out an upgrade ? is it possible to fit one in the little shelf under the tape player? any info would be appreciated - Thanks,

Garethj

Welcome to the club. Yeah, it's definately possible to get a CD player installed, you can buy the Toyota unit off eBay if you really want to but most people get an aftermarket 1, usually put in the coin slot you described. Mine was already done when I bought my car but there are a few How To's in the Yaris section HERE.

Hope that helps

You can put it in the coin slot, but it looks like half a job.

You can purchase the fascia, double-din unit and audioleads loom to do the job properly.

The only thing I didn't do, was re-install the lighter, as I have no need for it. Still got it though, in the original tape/ radio and fascia in a box in me garage.

Here's mine:

If you'd rather not go for an aftermarket head unit and if you want to keep the tape player, you can add a single slot or 6 disc in dash changer from toyota. These are often on eBay and go in the slot under the tape player as mentioned above. Make sure you get one with the wiring included.

If you don't use tapes any more (who does?) there are often Yaris CD players on eBay with the fascia still attached. These will be a straight swap.

Either way, it's an easy operation, just use the how to guides in the workshop to help take the dash apart.

Frankly I'm shocked that you can still get Cassette players in new cars !

Lol - think it's no longer available in the New Yaris...
