I am looking into a low mileage GT4 which is overheating, 10 mins and water is spewing out of the water chamber.

I am thinking of getting it, my dads a mechanic and can do the work for free, the techincal side of things is no problem.

But i have been told getting a thicker headgasket is a no no, such as one from fensport eg blitz, it will lower compression and effect the boost , is this true. what you guys go for , i want to up the boost etcc... on it and thought this would be a good first mod... are my thoughts correct

Please correct me as nescicery please.....

if it is the HG (most likely on a gen5) the get a stock ST205 metal HG from toyota (about £45 IIRC) and a set of ARP head bolts.

make sure the head is checked for levelness and have it skimed if nessesary.

ensure both the face of the head and block are perfectly clean and free from old gasket residue, wrap some fine emery around a flat steel block and use spray lube and rub across the surface in nise long smooth strokes.

you will be best removing the engine and box to do the hg as its a PITA to do with the engine in situ, also you can examine all the water pipes as there are a few that are prone to splitting and are a pain to do whilst in the car
