Carina 1.8 Has Intermittent Poorly Engine

:help: My 1996 Carina 1.8 E runs fine 99% of the time. One a long motorway run though it has the occasional wobble - runs oddly (roughly) and lacks power. Then, as suddenly as it started, the fault goes away and she flies again. I guess the problem is either electrical or fuel system related - which is it though? I have checked the plugs (they were a bit dirty and the gap was off a bit; I have cleaned the distributor cap and rotor arm. I have checked the breather pipes from the crankcase etc - all OK).

The next move could be expensive!! If I got it connected to a diagnostic doofer would this tell me what's wrong?
