hi

my car is a 2.0 d4d avensis estate 2002 model. while im driving and reaching just over 2000 revs the car loses power its like the turbo comes on for a second and then goes off. then the check engine light comes on.

today i took it to toyota and they put it on thier machine. it came up with the following error

78(8) short - fuel pump system malfunction

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or any ideas on wot it could be.

apparently the fuel pump is very expensive.

thanks

A blocked fuel filter might give a similar effect. Has your car been serviced recently?

Hi

My 02 D4d Avensis is acting pretty much the same, it has no bother reving up past 3000rpm but there's no proper accel , I guess its getting enough fuel but it's like its missing the turbo which is whistling away as normal. the Eng management light comes on after a few miles but is resetable with the ignition key. I've checked the hoses to & from the filter-turbo-intercooler-engine and they all seem fine.

Has yours been sorted yet?

Hi mate

no its not sorted yet. but i took it to someone and they by passed the fuel filter and it ran perfect. so they cahnged filter but its still doing but not as much. On their ecu machine it said fault with one of injectors something to do with open circuit. maybe there is a problem with fuel pipe or dirt in tank. stuck now, any ideas anyone

Thanks
