Help! Confusion Regarding 10,000 Mile Service For Aygo.

Hi guys

My Aygo is due a 10,000 mile service within the next couple of days or so and naturally I've been calling around Toyota garages in my area, Manchester and got quotes ranging from £65.00 to £110.00!

I've also been told different things regarding what is covered under the 10k service, but what I definitely would like to know and have confirmed is that is an engine oil change covered under the 'proper' aygo service, please?

My Aygo has had a hard life in it's 6 mths of purchase and it's engine oil looks dirty etc!

Can anyone who has had a 10,000 mile service on their aygo confirm these queries for me, pls? Also what should I be paying for the service.

Thanks!! :)

Price seems to vary widely from one dealer to another. Nobody sems to know why though!

Any service to a car involves an oil change. It's one of the basics of car maintenance. I'd contact the dealer(s) and ask for a breakdown of what the service entails. For my last dealer service ( not Toyota though ) I was sent a list beforehand detailing everything they proposed to do to the car, and the costs involved.

Thanks for the advice. I was also concerned that the garage that offered the cheapest quote (£65), said it would take just 30 mins but did not mention oil change but just 'safety checks' would be done via computer as well as the physical inspections. I guess I should check before commiting! :)

It's always worth finding out first.

A cheaper price is always tempting, but if it doesn't pay for what you want/expect and give you the peace of mind that a service should then it's not beneficial.

It's your pride and joy, don't treat it to Second best to save a few bob.

Good luck with it !

My Aygo 10 000 was about £120 - def includes an oil / fliter but apart from that just a top up and visual check. I think they check all torques as well and it's a good time to get them to sort any warranty niggles as well.

I have the receipt somewhere so I'll detail what they did later.

What is required in the service should be detailed in the service booklet.

I had a look when the car arrived. It is basically an oil/filter change and inspection of various things. My dealer said the service would be ~£120 which I think is a rip off for an oil change :o

Just had my Aygo serviced today. Originally quoted £90.00 for the 10k service which includes oil change, filter and inspection, but managed to haggle it down to just £80.00. Not bad considering it was with the main dealer here in Manchester.

Furthermore, I was told by the same garage that the 20k service-which comes next- takes upto 90 mins to complete and is more involved. Quoted just £120.00 if I was to return in 6 mths time.

Car runs a lot smoother after the oil change btw...

Services in the UK seem to be a LOT more expensive than they are in The Netherlands:

I got a brochure off of the Toyota website with intervals and prices for service; it needs

a service every 15.000km (9.320mi) or one year (whichever comes first) and the "small"

and "large" services alternate. Small service is €98 (£66) a Large one is €185 (£124)...

What's done/checked according to the brochure:

Small Service:

  • Oilchange including Filter (not on a Diesel)
  • Tyres and Tyrepressures
  • Horn
  • Engine Diagnostics are read
  • Hood, Bootlid and Doors are checked on the Latches, Hinges and Switches (if applicable)
  • Front Brakerotors, Brakepads and Brakelines (hard and soft)
  • Window Washers and Wipers, fluid topped up if needed
  • Seatbelts front and back
  • Lights (including courtesylight and instrumentlighting)

A Large Service includes everything in the Small one PLUS the following;

  • Oil and Filter (Diesel too; needs one every 30.000km)
  • Driveshafts

    Every 60.000km or 4 years
  • Timing belt (Diesel only)

I suppose living up North helps a bit but I am quite a 'haggler' by nature and never pay the full or advertised price without a fight! lol

The secret is, esp with garages in mind- is to let them play against each other. A little bit of competition certainly helps!
