Hi all,

I just bought a used Prius that has done 9800 miles by 1 owner and seems to drive nicely. It passed an HPI test with flying colours so is not dodgy in any way.

It has a full MOT and service history but I'm not sure if it's had all the recall work done on it.

A few questions:

What's the first port of call.. Local Toyota garage for Visual safety inspection maybe?

Warranty runs out in June 07. I am thinking of extending it if possible. Again a visit to the garage?

All the alloys are corroded. blisteringly ugly :-( . Can they be replaced under warrranty?

How long is the Battery warrantied for an 02 model?

Any advice from current owners is appreciated.

Firstly welcome to the club :D

A healthcheck by a main dealer should be free and a good way of introducing yourself to the local dealership.

I would have thought that the alloys would be outside the warranty period but always worth a try :D

9800miles on an '02 is superb considering average mileage is 12500 per year. One thing I would check with the service history is how often it has been done as even though the mileage is low it still should have had a service every year.

Thanks,

I'll book it into the local dealer soon then.

It has had a service every year according to its log.

I'm still getting used to the car. Driving on Battery alone feels like coasting but It seems a little wierd when silently reversing up a driveway.

Hi Mancunian

Your warranty should have run out in 05. Only 3 years warranty. If you have an extended warranty- read the small print, I have an idea that alloy wheel corrosion is specifically excluded, but I could be wrong. I believe the traction Battery is warrntied for 10 years. Again read the small print to be sure.

Regards Ray

Hmm.. I'll see what my dealer can offer.

Slightly off topic but the GPS is not enabled on my Prius. Is it worth trying to get a factory one fitted or am I better sticking to my PDA with TomTom on it?

Could I clarify, when you say an 02 model, do you mean registered in 2002 i.e a Mk 1 Classic Prius, or are you referring to a Mk2 Prius (2004 onwards)?

Recalls can be checked here http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

You dealer should be able to check Totyotas computer records to see if all the recalls have been none on your car.
