Oil Spillage In Boot

Hi guys,

I recently had a serious spillage of engine oil in the boot of my MR2 (about 2.5 litres) and the result is an unholy mess. The carpet is soaked with oil and has resisted all my efforts to get it out.

So far I have tried:

ordinary detergent (ie washing powder);

white spirit (that was some help but not much);

Rug Doctor (carpet cleaning machine using vaporised detergent and suction);

carpet cleaner;

Turtle Wax Interior1 Upholstery Cleaner (foam).

All to no avail. :crybaby:

I would be grateful for any suggestions as I am desperate to get the use of my boot back.

Many thanks.

Alan

Unlucky !

The best I can suggest is try, try and try again. Remove the carpet and thoroughly dry out the boot space. try to get as much out of the carpet as possible with the old 'soak it up with newspapers and heavy weights' trick. Then carpet shampoos/fairy liquid and a lot of elbow grease.

Having the carpet out also means that you can clean it vertically.......hang it and as you're washing it out any residual oil will drip off at the bottom.

Once the bulk of it is out then it should clean up nicely.

Good luck !

Have you tried cat litter? I've heard that's useful for soaking up oil during an oil change, maybe it will absorb some from your boot :huh:
