Tyres

Well I picked it up yesterday and it's actually better than I remembered condition wise. See link to my first thread:

The first job is tyres. All 4 are past there best and I need to get them done. Question is:

What do you recommend?

It still has it's original Bridgestone Duellers on it and the spare is brand new never been fitted. thing is, do I match this and fit four new ones (which common sense tells me that these were the tyres Toyota developed the car on) or do I switch to a more road based tyre which are quieter and slightly more grippy? I've been looking at Toyo's, Khumo's, Conti's etc.

What are your thoughts / experiences guys?

Thanks in advance

Trevor

My advice would be to stick with what Toyota originally fitted, at least you would have 5 tyres the same. Lets face it they have been making cars for some time now so you would hope they would know what they are doing.

I've had the Duelers on for the last 18 months since buying the RAV...I cannot wait to get rid of them !.

In my experience they have very little grip in damp/greasy conditions, slightly better in full wet conditions, dry is ok. They havent really worn at all in the last 18 months despite doing almost 20000m. The compound must be so hard....hence lack of wear and therefore lack of grip !. Going round a damp rounderbout on the inside to find your on the outside a few seconds later scares the life out of me !, although kind of fun.

I have studied the postings everytime someone mentions tyres and think my next set will be Goodyears.

on mytres.co.uk search for - WRANGLER HP ALL WEATHER 235/60 R16 100H , M+S marking.

Interested to know if anyone else has fitted them.

Anyway surely Mr T fits Duelers from new due to either getting them free or very cheap from Bridgestone. Bridgestone looking to get the repeat sales !

Got some quotes today and I can get Duellers fitted all in at £81 per tyre. Cheapest I could get on the net not fitted was £75 so I guess £81's a good price.

Or do I go for the Goodyear Wranglers recommended on the other thread......OHHHHH I'm all confused now! :(

I think I'll plump for the Duellers cos they match the spare, they are original equipment and it's a good price.

The rears don't look too bad on the tread front but the wall have minor cracking (and I mean minor) so I guess 4 are really on the cards.

My Freelander came with Wrangers that did 50000 miles (front and rear) - changed at 2/3mm. I changed to Michelin Synchrones which did 30000 miles by the time I sold it (and they still had 5/6mm).

My wife's Grand Vitara had Bridgestone's which were replaced at 48000 miles (with the same and were hardly worn when sold at 60000 miles).

We had no grip concerns with any of these. My new Rav4 has Yokohamas - if they don't see 50000 miles I'll probably go to Michelins.

My $0.02 worth...

Ordered 4 bridgestones today from my usual tyre guy in Surrey.

Let you know of any improvements. The fronts are shot, the rears have a little left but have some cracking on the walls so I've bitten the bullet and gone for 4.
