My f/n/s fog light has broken on the Aygo - the result of a stone whacking it this morning.

Popped into Mr T to source a replacement only to be told 'it doesn't exist' - i.e. it is not an avalaible spare part on their electronic database ? ?

Seems strange to me - anyone on 'the inside' help with this ?

Hi,

i know you can get the fog lights as a full kit (lights, surrounds, wiring) im not sure if you are able to get the lights seperate but would have thought you could get them.

when you go to the parts dept give them the reg of an aygo sport which should come with front fogs anyway. they should be able to get you a single lamp this way.

if not i could take a look and maybe get you a part number from one.

I've got a Sport and have given them my reg - they have wiring looms but not the actual light / glass

try popping down to peugeot or citroen, peugeot seem to have a better parts service then toyota so mite be worth seeing if they have anything.

try popping down to peugeot or citroen

That COULD work if we were talking about something

for the interior, as those are the same betwee the three.

But the Fog lamps are brand-specific,

so I don't think Pug or Citroen could deliver...

Hmmmmm . . tried another dealer today and got the same response, can't believe this is not an available part.

At this rate I might have to arrange to have an Aygo Sport on a 2 day test drive

Which fog lamp is broken? If it is the nearside one you are OK, if you remove the broken fog lamp. However, if it is the offside fog lamp you are breaking the law.

Here is an additional twist, under EU law all car manufacturers have to fully support all cars that are in current production and models that are no longer in prodution for at least 7 years after production ceased. Therefore, by refusing to sell you an item you require for your car in order to make it roadworthy, Toyota are in effect breaking the law.

I would suggest that a good disscusion with your local trading standards office is warranted in this case.

Posted

Since Foglamps are not mandatory (AFAIK) not having

them has no influence on the car being "roadworthy"...

So there's no problem with removing them all together...

But then you're stuck with two ugly holes up front...

A rear Foglight IS mandatory, so removing that IS illegal...

Posted

It's the near side one - don't think it would be illegal - in fact it still lights up it's just the glass is cracked.

Posted

As long as you can prove that the crack does not affect the operation of the lamp (beam direction and spread) and that the crack is not likely to break and cause a sharp edge, you may be OK.

The best place for advice though would be an MOT inspector, he would definitely be able to advise whether the lens is legal and would pass an MOT.

How does insurance work if you have an Aygo on a 2 day test drive - is there any excess ?

For example, say I had an Aygo on test drive and whilst it was in my care a stone broke the front fog light, how would this be treated by the Toyota dealer when I returned the car ?

Posted

lolol good plan! not sure whats its like, but thats such a good idea!

Posted

Just do it and don't tell them when you return it. Try and distract the person when they go to look over it.

There is an excess.....................(£250 I think...............it might be more)

You also have to sign a document saying that you will not remove anything from the car.

To be fair, Toyota must protect their property.

BadBoyVTEC..................................you really do live up to your forum name

That type of action ruins it for everyone.

Matty_aygo.......................not really a good idea :(

Yeah it's not a good idea - I would rather Toyota supplied me with one and I paid for it but I can't seem to get that.

Lol. Oh well. Next time I see my cousins mate who works for Toyota as a mechanic I will ask him to look into it but don't rely on me as it might be a while.

Hi Steve

I am that MOT tester. Rear fog light IS compulsory, front fog lights are not compulsory or even testable, apart form sharp edges due to damage. The Aygos that come into this country have the fog lights fitted at point of entry. That means they can be found on the EAPM. Electronic Accessories Parts Manual. Tell your parts numpty to go into EAPM, then down to fog lights, then to Bezel. It will open up a menu for all the parts seperately. Failing that the part number is:- P2457-90510-05. It's about £50 + the dreaded.Seems that the lamp is the same both sides, it's the bezel that's handed and colour coded. So you need to know which side and what colour before you can order. Cheers Ray

Ray - top work thanks

can you just clarify for me - the small round glass (about 8cm approx ) is what is broken - everything else is fine.

Are you saying this bit of glass is 50 + VAT or is that for the whole unit and the glass is not available on it's own.

Thanks for help so far

SMW,

the price above will be for the whole fog lamp unit, you cant get just the glass on its own.

Mart is absolutely right. You have to buy the whole thing. On the plus side it means you get a nice new reflector. On the down side it does make them easy to overprice. May I politely request that you reserve the use of your front fog lights to periods of poor visibility, and don't have them on all the time. That is my pet hate, especially when the driver behind you has them on and drives within 2 metres of your rear bumper, believing that the lights make him "safe". Kind regards Ray

Thanks for info.

My journey to work is at 3.30 am each day and there is often fog and mist about so I use my fogs to help through that. Always turn off when another car is around though

Incidentally I undid those 4 allen key nuts in an attempt to remove the glass and the whole unit fell off inside the front bumper and now I can't get it back ! I have taped over the resulting 'hole' in the bumper in an attempt to stop water getting in.

Posted

I wouldnt advise just leaving it like that though,

the lamp unit will now be loose and move around when you are driving

this could result in even more damage than just the smashed glass.

Taping over the hole is pretty pointless too. Water will get inside from underneath/behind the bumper anyway.

The wiring could get damaged with the weight of the lamp hanging on it

which will cost you more than £50+vat.

It is pretty easy to get the weather shield from the underside and get your hand inside the bumper to refit the lamp and surround.

Update - TNS St Ives have ordered the part and are fitting it 30/11.

Thanks for all your help.

What kind of bulbs is it in these foglights? Is it H3 or H11?
