the car is 1992

1992 falls under the year required for a CAT for MOT think its 1994 when you have problems, you will be fine.

My '91 has no cat and sailed 2 MOT's.

yeah.. think it's pre 93? And you don't need a cat.

if this is certain then im getting a decat pipe lol

Posted

if you are worried about the MOT, just put the cat back in for the MOT and remove it when its passed :)

yeah but its the effort of keep taking it on and off lol also what sort of bhp gain am i looking at for a decat pipe and exhaust with apexi induction kit ...

id love a turbo but they say i cant get insured till im 21 on them

some sites say stupid prices lol ill wait till after xmas and search again

if the car is K Reg or earlier you will be fine and not need a cat as if the car is pre 1992 it will be fine :D

K reg is 1993/4 I think.

indeed it is 1994 and before, i have a 1995 turbo and i think i am excused from the emission test because there was never an mr2 turbo check list as it was never an official car, dunno though.

the cat for the turbo is mega hefty though!

im thinking with the boost controller installed i can reduce the boost and lower the emissions.

would it work?

It is very strickt!

Pre 1994 or duff!

yep if its a pre 96 import that does not have a direct uk equivelent then you dont need a cat (be prepared to argue the point depending on MOT tester)

even pre 96 GT4s that are imports can get around it as the jap GT4 does not have an EGR system so therefore there is no uk equivelent

You won't be on boost during the emission test. Not enough load.
