Lambda Sensor St185

I have a broken (now disconnected) lead to the top downpipe lambda sensor to my 1993 GT4 ST185. It doesnt seem to make any difference to the performance. However the engine fault light does not come on. Can I be doing any damage to the engine with this and will it affect emissions and fuel consumption?

I can't remember if the o2 sensor error will light the check engine light all the time, some dont. Have you checked for diagnostic error codes? Little box is by the nearside shock tower. Connect TE1 and E1 with the engine off with a paperclip or the suchlike and turn the ignition switch to on but do not start the car. The CEL will blink to give you error codes. I.E 21 would be blink blink pause blink pause blink blink pause blink and that would only be for 21. It will cycle through others if they are there. Then disconnect the paperclip before driving again.

The downside if it is broken is the ECU will go into safe mode and rob you of power/economy.

I would get it fixed ASAP to be on the safe side and it shouldn't be hard for someone reasonably in the know.

Check your codes first and come back and we can see what youve got.
