Very Bright Refection

Hello

I bought an 04 Prius in May 06, very pleased with it except for 1 anonyance :ffs: .

The speedo that is at the front of the dash board is too bright and at night, it refects onto the window screen right in your line of sight. This is really off putting and quite distracting.

I have looked in the car and the manual to see if there is a dimmer switch but can find no reference to it.

The car has just been in for the recall (good service from Kings Toyota Southampton, bottle of bubblie but no fuel voucher, following on from another thread). Asked them if there was a way to dim this, but they said they ran out of time to look and to remind them at the 20k service, which is in 3k time.

Does anybody have this problem with their car? Has anyone got it fixed? Has anyone fixed it themselves?

Thanks for yout time  .

There is a Instrument panel display dimmer switch next to the odometer switch. By pressing it you can dim the instrument panel display. Its got three levels of dimmer. so, you can press twice for lowest level of light.

Its mentioned in the manual as well (my manual its on page 142 for 2005 model)

HI

I had found the dimmer switch for the instrument panel, but this does not seem to dim the brightness of the digital speed readout.

i have taken a piece of black matt paper and tape and pieced it on top of the dash so it blocks the reflective bit off, its a bit of a puzzle but it can be done.

works for me.

have fun.

I don't know why you are having problem.

are you pressing the right switch?

its the kmph/mph switch next to the odotrip.

If you press and hold the switch for sometime, then the display changes from mph to kmph

but if you press and leave it immediately, it dims the digital readout on the dashboard.

press again, it dims further

press again, its dims further

press again, its dims further.

now if you press again, it comes back to original lighting.

note: it doesn't work in daylight. (or i think when your headlights are switched off)

as far as i know it works only during the night ( i will check up today if it works when the headlights are on during day time)

Anyway, this switch works perfectly for me.
