I have noticed that all anyone says on this site to do with modding any Celica is 'Buy a GT4'! :ffs:

Someone asks if they should put a air filter on to get more power - Buy a GT4

Can I swap my engine for a GT engine - buy a GT4

I want a gt4 but cant afford one should I buy a bonnet? - Buy a GT4

I have noticed its about 4 people who do it on every thread, and I think I have figured out why they do it, they have NEVER owned a fast car before! ;)

Im sure that they would love one but come on, people have to start somewhere, after all Im sure there are GT4 owners out there who not so long ago put up with driving cars that others would not entertain the idea of even buying!

Rant Over!

If people are asking for advice on what can be done surely the best advice is an answer to the question asked, buying a GT$ isn;t really an answer :D

Hi There matey,

i kinda know what you mean- its very similar over on the TOC! site too, the GT is an unloved beastie thats for certain!

It kinda annoyed me at first too, but they're right, if you want performance then it IS cheaper to go out and trade in yer GT for a GT4, bang for buck wise.

I'm different, I love my GT, and I'm not really looking to change to a GT4. Therefore I like playing with my GT all on my own  I'm well into doing mods to my car, and I'm sticking with a GT. There are a few of us about!

I think the reason folk say "buy a GT4" is because they are simply handing out advice, as that IS the cheaper way to get a performance celica, I don't think they're being personal or "writing off" the idea of tuning a GT, its just they dont want to see people blow lots of money on a GT and still be slower than a 4. Even tuning a 4 is more cost effective cos you have boost to play with!

Chin up dude, there are ways of getting more out of your GT if thats the route you choose- there arent many of us about but we know why we do it

Now I'm not a regular poster on here- so let the flaming begin :lol::thumbsup:

That's the spirit Dan,

But I was about to say something similar.

The GT can be modded to the Nth degree if you wanted to, but the easiest and most cost effective way to more power/performance etc is the GT4 route.

Anyway, I don't know what any of you bother with Celica's for - you should all get Seras. :D

I`ve spent a shed load of money trying to get a 185 to perform the same as a 205. You could say that i should`ve bought a gen 6 in the first place..... But for me personally it`s a preference thing. Admittedly the 205 is a better all round car than a 185. But I prefer the looks and the solidity of a 185 so thats what i`ve got. The same applies to the ST/GT guys. They probably prefer what they`ve got for whatever reason.

Horses for courses. And as Rach says... What a boring world it would be if..............

well... if you are refering to me as one of these '4' people, i would like to say that the ONLY time i ever recommend a gt4 to someone is if i think that this is going to be the most cost effective solution for that specific person.

In my eyes there are 2 reasons why someone would buy a GT over a GT4:

1- They are not really fussed about cars OR not too bothered about performance

2- They Cant afford a GT4

So if someone says "i want to do an engine swap and put a GT4 engine in" i will recommend a GT4 as it will perform better and cost the person less overall.

If someone wants to modify a GT and spend alot of money getting an extra 40 odd bhp then i will say, "why not get a stock GT4 as it will cost less and peform better" it just makes sense!

If someone comes along and says i want to put a filter on my GT i will gladly help and recommend one.. without mentioning a GT4.

The main point is, i only recommend someone buy a gt4 if i think its the right solution for them, and it is something they can afford.

I can see why you do this, i see the Gen5 as a completely different car. if you prefer that model then fair enough

Dak: Amen to that B)

If i was to get a 4 it would either be a 1sick5 or a 1great5 :)

thing is, to extract an extra 29 BHP out of my GT to equal a stock 165, it will probarly cost me more than buying a 165 outright! (and with less traction)

But its my preference, so thats what I aim to do, eventually, when the brakes work :)

I would add a 3- Daft people who buy cars on e-bay without knowing much about them !

This celica is the slowest car i've owned in the last 3 years so i wanted to spend some cash and get some more performance whereas in hindsight i should have listened to the others saying sell it for a gt4 .

 *wonders if he's one of the four*.......... probarly , makes sense more often than not.

i agree, it is recommended a lot.

but there are a lot of people who ask 'how can I get extra performance out of my GT?' and the most sensible answer is 'Swap it for a Gt4'.

i'm sure if people still want to go the expensive route, the guys on here with tell them what needs to be done.

Who are the GT4 4!!!!!?

:lol::lol::lol:

Millencolin seems a bit guilty hey!!

Jones 32 is too obvious to not be one, but he did drive a corolla before so its expected!!:lol:

Im not overly bothered but sometimes it seems like people think they have to let others know their car is 'better' so to speak.

I got a GT as I wanted a CHEAP reliable but tidy looking runaround and its been exactly that! I dont sit there and tell ST owners to buy a GT(cos I know someone will then say buy a 4! )!

Adam I dont mean you at all, infact I like the fact you are ACTUALLY doing something with your car! I also like what you did with your GT, suggestions are all good and well in the right context.

edit for irish kev - Its possible to make a GT quicker without having to spend an additional £2000. Generally most people will look at performance etc before they buy so most owners are content. The gearing is so bad on GTs it might be that someone wants a mod for extra power lower down the rev range, not because they want to head but the horizon when they put their foot down!

If you werent overly bothered then you wouldnt have started this topic.

ubik i dont even have a gt4 but i know its common sense to advise people if they want perfromance from a gt its better to buy a gt4 . The question is raised here almost every other day - so now we dismiss the gt4 and tell people how to spend thousands of pounds on 3sge and get minimal increase's in power ? It can be done but its just **** stupid.

Mike does mention it a lot but he's just got it and obviously lovers his car , i dont see anything wrong with him letting everyone know that .

I used to be jealous that i didnt have a gt4 only a poxy gt too .

So now your saying GTs are Poxy??? More fool you for buying a car that you knew nothing about!

It annoys me when people say pointless things! Guy says he CAN NOT AFFORD a GT4 so wants to get a gt4 bonnet to make it look like one - in what way is BUY A GT4 an answer!???

100bhp more is alot, but 20bhp would make a GT noticably quicker than standard!

The question get raised by GT owners wanting more power from there GT!

Yes my GT is poxy - 138bhp from a 2.0 is pathetic , its had more parts replaced since i got it than i care to remember. I admit it wasnt clever buying a car i knew little about but nothing can be done about that .
