Is The Cts Suspension Rubbish Or Just Set Up For The Wrong Country?

I know i know i bet you are all wondering "what the hell is he going on about now?????"

But hang on with me a minute guys and let me explain.

Now yes from reading all the threads etc i think we are all in one pot when we say the cts suspension isn't the best.too soft too high etc etc which is fair enough.

Now the reason for this is PROBABLY because of cost from mr Ts' side but i started thinking slightly differently after my experience. I'm propbably talking poo but just want to see what you lot think.

Right well over summer i took mine to Southern France, Never been before and enjoyed every minute. Once at the campsite with everyone, they all seemed to love sunbathing in the hottest part of the day and i decided to take my cts for a blast around the french alps.

Now european roads are incredible....wide roads hardly anything on them and lots of lovely sweeping bends straights and hairpins climbing up a mountain. But one thing i noticed was that the roads are harrdly flat!!! Loads of dumps dinks all sorts........

But the CTS tooks these all in its stride and did very very well so well it even had a good go against an elise round the bends. He was too hard and was bouncing round the bends letting my cts pull up pull past and pull ahead!!!!!

So since the corolla was designed in europe do you think maybe the took into account the quality of the raods and chose the best set up for the WIDE market????????

I think we are a bit spoiled with our well engineered roads hahaha

But i bet you'll all think i'm talking poo...........just a thought i thought i'd share hahaha

Thats a very valid point, when i say the cts has rubbish suspension, I'm coming from the point of view of its not as good as it could be on the flat and smooth, but from the point of view of comfort and over rough roads it is quite good.

Suspension in general is a comprimise in favour of something, whether its handling or comfort, imo.

I defo have to agree, however it could have been a lot lower. Giving it a lower centre of gravity would make the car more stable in a corner. Overall the idea of the car is a tourer not an out and out sports car. The celica was targetted for that market.

I think a good set of coilovers set right for the french roads or any european country road and you'll see a defo improvement. You can change the damping force on the Super Streets by Tein. You could simulate the CTS compression rate with the tein but lower it. As you said before Zuban in the other thread you don't have to throw redicolous money at it to make the CTS handle really well. Defo need decent anti-roll bars.

I'm not so sure, Honda aimed the CTR at the boy racer hot hatch market it has suspension to suit, Toyota aimed the T-Sport at a different market and it has the suspension to suit.

Usually I drive mine back and forth to work stuck in traffic on bumpy b Roads and the car is fantastic I bought it over the Type R because it can be comfy and yet it goes quite well, if you wanted a good handling hot hatch you've bought the wrong car...

Don't get me wrong when I have a blast in mine the suspension does my head in, I actually think its quite dangerous at speed as I struggle with the wallow more than any other aspect.

And i'm considering lowering it to improve the handling but i'm cautious of doing this as it might ruin other ride qualities...
