anyone know if it's possible to buy replacement bushings for the front wishbones on a 97 carina e, it seems a waste to have to buy the whole wishbone when only the bushings are worn,,,

Hi SoHappy

Dont want to gatecrash your thread but how do you know when its the wishbone bushings and not the anti roll bar links?. The reason I ask is becuae Im getting a knocking as I drive a long and if metal is banging against metal. Doesnt seem as bad when I have weight in the back (people).

Cheers

jack up the front of the car, push and pull the front wheel in and out, if the wishbone rubbers are worn you should be able to see movement in the bushings,,,, your problem sounds like the anti roll bar links, it's a linkage that goes from the roll bar to the wishbone and has a balljoint on either end,, they sometimes seize or wear out, you can take them off and inspect them,,there are 2 on the front and 2 on the back of the car

hope this helps.

Thanks for that SoHappy, if the bushings are worn on your wishbones would you also get a knocking noise or just the play you mentioned. Also just wondering are the "wishbones" also called " Front suspension lower arms"?. ITs just that I have looked in my haynes manual in the front underbody view picture and cannot see wishbones listed

Thanks

Yes a wishbone and a lower suspension arm are one and the same.

It is a much easier (labour costs etc) to replace the entire fitting rather than the bushes. The bushes will probably be available from Mr T but expect to pay at least £10+. Removing the old ones and fittin new ones won't be easy.

I would be tempted to fit these - especially as the lower ball joint is supplied in the price:
