I Get Flashed

No not that flashing :D ...I seem to be getting flashed by oncoming cars , I suspect my lights are set too high, when the small wheel is set at 0 the beam does seem to be high and I have to move it to setting 3, how come they are set too high in the first place ? how much will it cost to get them reset?

The higher settings are for when there are more people than a driver in the car as the car will dip at the back therefore blinding other drivers on a 0 setting so you move the lights down.

But if its just you in the car it should be on 0... mine is always on 0 (I very rarely carry passengers) and I have never been flashed. I dont think yours need resetting and sorry for the dumbass question but are you sure you dont have full beam on?

I prefer mine on 0, as it lights the road ahead further without needing to put on full beam on.

I have been flashed a few times, but that was in my old car not my new one, but there again I have uprated headlight bulbs so they are a bit more brighter than the standard ones.

the headlight alignment might have been knocked out of place, take to any garage anad theyll do it for liek a tenner i think (kwik fit type of place)

I uprated my lights to the 50% brighter ones, Now If my lights are anything but facing down, I get flashed.

even just one notch up.

Sorry for draggin up an old thread, but i was looking through the old stuff...

The little wheel isnt for when you have passengers in the car, its for when you are towing a trailer and the front of the car points up as the back goes down, so that you can level the lights out and see where your going. You shouldnt move it unless you actually need to i.e. you have a trailer on and your front points way up. Itll blind people, just leave it alone on the 0 setting

Actually you're wrong.

I was waiting to pick up my wife the other night so i sat reading the owners manual.

0 is for normal driving with 2 people in the front

1 is for 2 people plus luggage

2 is for 4 people

3 is for 4 people and luggage

or was it 0,1,2 i forget but if you read the manual it's along those lines.

Yeah it is basically for when there is weight at the back of the vehicle that may cause it to tilt up so all of those are right! It's common sense really! Specially if you have ever loaded up the yaris heavy before you will see how the back sits nice n low :) (well lower atleast :P)

so you gits with the brighter bulbs are the ones to blame for me getting blinded by every other Yaris! :lol:

Yeah but the standard yaris lights are shocking we have to upgrade them!

Yeah the wind blows out the candles so we need to fit proper light bulbs, i just fitted some of those Halfords blue bulbs, 80w/100w miles better i can actually see where i am going in the dark now. :yahoo:

I dunno though, when i load my car up with people and stuff the lights are still fine, and i dont need to adjust them even though the back goes down a bit. This was before i got it lowered and stiffened, now it doesnt even go down as much as it used to so i definitely dont need to adjust them....

@ the dudes with upgraded bulbs - I've heard that getting higher wattage bulbs than standard 55/60 can melt your headlight plastic, cause other problems etc... How you faring with the high watt bulbs? I was thinking of just getting the philips ones that say they give 50% extra light, but theyre still 55/60watt

Not noticed a problem yet but then i tend to turn off the lights if i am pulled up at night unless in traffic etc.

My lights are on 0 and iv got 'Rally' headlights at 80/100w... super bright... much stronger beam. No headlight melting and iv had them in 6 months and thats in all conditions. No probs.

Guys have you had any problems with this headlight levelling thing? The headlight levelling motor on my echo verso seems to be always on ( I hear a faint sound when I turn on the headlights when the engine is off). Im just concerned I might burn it out because isn't the motor supposed to stop then it has already changed the headlight angle?

Worth knowing! Does the plastic get really hot cos mine does with just 50% brighter ones?

I have also got a Verso (the link in the signature). The only times I hear the sound for the "headlight levelling thing" is when the car is on and I adjust it, or when I have adjusted it while the car was off, and turning the car on. That's not right, atleast should not be.

So, let me see if I get this straight. You don't adjust the headlight, but it does automatically when you're turning on the lights? And it always adjust the lights when they are on? So they are adjusted up and down all the time, or do they just trying to get beyond the highest/lowest level?
