I'm Coming Back To Toyota With A T-s Compressor!

Hi all,

Now I might get flamed for this by the mods and sorry in advance if I shouldn’t have reregistered but I used to belong to this forum many, many years ago when I bought my Yaris T-Sport, I also owned one of the first Corolla T-Sport’s which I bought after the Yaris.

I decided that I wanted something which was a little more involving to drive and consequently decided on a Civic Type-R of which I owned two one pre face lift and a face lift model they were both fantastic cars and I enjoyed them immensely. In the end I ended up selling the Civic and bought a mint condition Ford Focus RS which to date is the best thing I have ever driven for the money and blew the Civic away in my own opinion but I had to sell it for one reason and another and its time to buy another car.

I decided to come back to where it all started as I wanted something unique and yet quick with a fair bit of potential. I’ve decided to get a Corolla T-Sport Compressor.

Just a couple of question does anybody know about upping the boost of the supercharger to get a touch more power and also does anybody know id there is a coilover kit available yet for the car to improve the handling.

Look forward to hearing from you should be getting the car in the next month, just looking for a granite grey one with the leather suede seats.

Nice way to come back to the Toyota field mate, im guessin the compressor would be able to run the same Tein basic coilovers as i have on my CTS. The standard suspension on mine was a bit boaty so had to buy the Teins, www.funkystyling.co.uk delivered them to Northern Ireland for £520. As for the supercharger i know of a celica with a supercharger sitting at 246bhp but not sure what he has actually done to it, so it is possible.

Well done on your decision

You can up the power on the Compressor engine with software as the Lotus Exige manages 240bhp with the same set up but it is rather elusive ;)

The only way to get big numbers out of a supercharger is to fit a smaller pulley. The problem is that the Compressor has a an electro-magnetic clutch which free-wheels the supercharger under gentler driving conditions. This in itself would make fitting a smaller pulley more difficult although I am sure there must be something out there!

I have considered replacing the whole pulley assembly with a solid unit which would then allow more options but am not sure how the existing software would react if it saw constant boost.

I am sure some tuning companies must have looked at this set up, it's just tracking them down

Cheers for the quick response guys!

I was looking on Fensports web site about the Tein coilovers might be worth trying to find out if they would be compatible with the compressor’s setup I cant see why not!

Chrisio, we will have to keep intouch fella as I would be very keen so see if we could be able to extract that little bit extra, as you say with Toyota supplying Lotus with 240 BHP versions of the effectively the engine it must be possible to do.

Finally nice to see a T-Sport forum, always good to have a place to talk about the car in question!

i have enquired about upping the boost on my compressor only problem is when you force more air in the air needs to be cooled therefore it is recommended to have a cool charger or an intercooler fitted otherwise you start to get pinking due to warm air being forced in and engine detects this and retards ignition counteracting the benifit of the extra boost.am looking into a piggy back ecu at moment to see what improvments that may give will let you no. :Dps welcome back good choice of toyota to come back to

Welcome back Nick-Johnson!

Mircea

Thanks guys I know it has been a very long time!! Nice to see your still around Mircea!

Whats strange it that Lotus are getting the same 2G-ZZ engines but with 25 BHP more, do Lotus’s engines have either a charge cooler or an intercooler to produce that extra power or are they running different pulleys and belts to obtain greater boost from the supercharger?

Is there a Lotus forum we could ask somebody on there who might be in the know?

Lotus also have an intercooler directly above the charger, however due to the engine layout and it being RWD, they have some ducting to make use of the I/C.

With the slight angle on the engine in situ, with this arrangement or at least pipework for a decent FMIC, I dont think you would be able to clear the slam panel...Could be wrong though

Steve,

That’s a great picture and very interesting Steve, I wonder whose intercooler that is? Is it something developed by Lotus for the engine afterwards or does it come as part of the customer deal between the two companies.

I’m pretty sure that the intercooler could be relocated to the bottom with different pipe work, you would need to make sure there is room but surely it’s possible!

Well I am going to do my homework, see if I can talk to some of trhe Lotus guys on the forums who maybe able to point me in the right direction to who maybe supplying Lotus with the intercooler.

Next up is to see if the unit will fit at the front of the engine bay, I would also think then there would be some re-mapping to do! I wonder if it would be as simple as running Lotus's map on the car?

From what I've heard it's Lotus's own ECU, loom and map meaning it may not be compatible with our ECU's anyway :(

As for the I/C, I would have a look on eBay for a generic single pass I/C to fit in the front bumper, bound to be lots of other manafacturer OE stuff which would be suitable

One thing about the intercooler guys, if you look at the casting on the Compressor supercharger the outlet seems in a different place.

I looked at the idea of an intercooler or charge cooler when I first got my car but the outlet pipe is so close to the intake I couldn't figure a route for any pipework to get to the front of the car

I have a spare water/methanol kit off my other car so I was considering how to install it on the Toyota.

Early days....
