Can anyone tell me how you change the Car stereo on a toyota yaris?

I have a Yaris 2003 Steroe is w18203

now it seems to be connected to the Ashtray and Cigarette lighter

panel and i cant for the life of me figure out how you remove it?

i need to change it cos something has jammed in the stereo!

Two choices, of which you can see on the link Blue has posted above.

1) Keep standard radio, and put CD player in coin tray.

2) Get fascia, etc, and replace the entire thing. Like how I did mine:

hi, im new to the forum and had a quick question!

if i wanted to fit a double din stereo would i still need an inner lead adaptor to make sure the unit fitted flush with the new surround... and second of all when u got the adaptor from toyota what did u ask for!!

The genuine toyota fascia is not double din so you would need to get an aftermarket double din fascia. http://motors.shop.ebay.co.uk/items/_W0QQ_...;_osacat=108815

thanks for the quick reply.. but i got an 02 plate t sport so the ciggy lighter is on the right. its a nightmare to try n get hold of the surround. those 1s on eBay r for new shapes yarises right?

The picture above in this thread is an original toyota fascia used for fitting aftermarket stereos. The cig lighter is on the right and you still have a coin tray but it is not double din. They are about £40 and you can only get it from a toyota dealer.

The aftermarket replacement fascia all have the cigarette lighter in the middle and no coin tray. That is the type you need. They have a double din size hole and the pocket is removeable. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toyota-Yaris-1999-03...%3A1%7C294%3A50

I was going to install a double din but the positon of the stereo in the yaris is very low. Mounting a double din there you wouldnt even be able to see the screen without taking your eyes off the road and looking down. Not much space between the gear lever and unit too.

cheers for that. helped clear things up a lot. so with the aftermarket double din slot. i would have to place my cigerate lighter in the middle. never completely thought about the screen being a bit low tbh lol. might go for a single din....

i spose i could get the exact one in ur post and put the coin slot lower, havin a single din slot n savin myself 20quid!

Yes you can put the pocket in the top or bottom. A single din unit with a flip out screen would be a better option than a double din IMO.
