Brakes Are Wearing Out :(

Hey'all!

Right well after the grass auto test my brakes have had quite a bit of fade but still biting. I now notice a grinding noise when braking gently telling me they're are on the way out (will check the thickness of pads when weathers not quite so rubbish!)

Now my brake pads are gona need a changing soon so i thought i may aswell fit some EBC green's as they dont hurt my wallet too much but give me that little extra performance :) Now i also need the lines replacing probably as i'm guessing i stretched them a bit when stupidly heavy brakin in auto test (about 20 times i broke as hard as i possibly could from about 40 to 0 also causing the ABS light to come on) so they may need a changing too. Also i would refill the lines with some new fluid. Here comes the questions....

What model/code number do i need for EBC green stuff pads on the front of a 1.3 SR? I'm sure someone on here had a problem with replacing them with the right ones so i was hoping they could help me out. If i replace my lines, where would i go to buy the standard lines? How much are they? Fluid wise, can i fill my standard lines with 5.1 fluid? I ask just as its cheap and may aswell while i'm there :P Also i think i could do most of it myself but if i was to go to a garage what should i expect to pay? (for the labour only as would source the parts myself)

Cheers in advance all

Drive safe

Woody

Woody = have a word with Ray Wong - hes done brakes for his SR in the not so distant past and will know what pads you require.

As regards the lines - Id just bite the bullet and buy braided - they're 70quid and will make a world of difference.

As regards fitting - its a boring and messy job but its up to you...

My local -place took 20quid to do mine including bleeding and that was for all four - you only have two.

Hope that helps

Cheers man, was hoping you'd reply  I may wait for the lines and save up. Only problem was in the end i want a Tsport so would be taken them off again to transfer across so seems silly! For £20 i'd definately get a garage to do for safety mainly aswell as convenience! Tbh i know i can fit the pads so i would just want them to refill n rebleed the system! Will PM Ray cheers!

The fitting side of things might be more complicated than you might think - chances are if the pads are nearly goosed that you'll need to wind the caliper back - easy enough if you have a suitable G Clamp.

Last time I did mine I managed to snap off the the caliper bolt on the drivers side - take your time and be careful.

Believe it or not a Turkey Baster makes topping up or changing the brake fluid a lot easier - especially if you have a strut brace.

Personally Id get the lines for your SR - at the end of the day 70 quid and postage gives you a much much improved braking profile - no brake fade... believe me Ive tested them.

But remember you will be paying £70 for only the front 2 lines!!! you'll have 2 spare back ones!!!

stick to standard lines for the SR mate

Hmmm yeah thats the reason i didn't want to get the braided lines now when i would be spending more than i need to for half the package and then also hassle of buying standard lines to put back on if i sell it! Yeah the brake pad changing does sound a little more involved than i thought but could still do it. However i may aswell get it all done at a garage. Would i be able to physically see any expansion in the lines to show me the brake fade? I also get like a squelchy noise when i push on the brakes when im stationary. I assumed this means they need bleeding? (Potential air in brakes?!)

You would bother taking them off again? :!Removed!:

I guess if you're just pootling around town and brief motorway squirts then the braided lines may not be worth the cash, but I'm going to have them fitted anyhow.

Anyhow... EBC Greenstuff... You need to look and see if your brakes are Bendix style or the same as a T-Sport.

Have fun,

A

Ooo on a side note i may be able to get hold of front steel braided lines from AP (Agency Power) for the yaris in a group buy if anyone would be interested? Would be about £40 for the full front set delivered? Also on that note could get hold of braided clutch lines for £30 delivered aswell if we get a group buy going! Just a thought as quite a few of the non Tsport owners wanting to upgrade braking and that!

I always thought AP was Automotive Products (The brake people......a division of Lockheed)

Braided lines i'm considering!...

cheapest and most worthwhile mod you can do - get them!

I agree with Lorne on this one,

After all this i dont even need to replace the pads! I took it apart yesterday to have a look and it still has more than enough pad on them! The reason i thought it needed changing was because i was getting a grinding noise when braking which i assumed was the wear indicators on the pads. Apparently not as now when put back together the sound has gone! :D But did notice my discs need changing soon as they have quite a lip on them! Still maybe up for buying those lines or atleast the clutch line if anyone else is stil interested?
