Roof Bars For Avensis

Hello out there. Just had some minor repairs done on my Avensis D4D 2.0 T3X (55reg). All free (thank you Mr. T) but while I was there I enquired about having roof bars being fitted on the car. £138.32 was the standard price for Toyota bars on any Toyota car. My previous car was a Ford Focus Estate (don't worry, it was just a phase.) but roof bars for that cost £40 - fit it yourself from Motorworld, but suffered from a few scratches. I was hoping someone out there could reccomend some roof bars I could fit myself, that I could also remove if needs be, and won't harm my paint work.

While you're at it, fitting a standard boot spoiler as seen in the catologue apparently will cost me £100's. (the figure was just mentioned as hundreds) Again, is it me or is this a tad expensive?

Of all the cars I've owned I have always had Thule bars. I have at present a T3-s tourer with Thule bars plus extras.

Hope this helps, best price, try Snowchains of Tonbridge or E-bay.

I have Thule too. I went for the aero version. they haven't scratched the car yet and take 10mins to fit.

got mine from indespension. they are all over the country. I think their website is roofboxcompany.co.uk

Thanks. Looks like Thule are the way to go. I did some investigating though, is it right you need a special adapter to fit standard roof box onto aero bars? Or does it depend on the roof box fixings?

I got the hatch spoiler for my T3-x, cost me about 35 quid off eBay, 20 for a mate to spray it, and fitted it meself, its not difficult and looks good. A bit different from the crowd anyway!

Matty2767, Yes, non-thule. Bottom of the range Halfords special offer! Flat base with square 'U' clamp fittings 2 front 2 back. They originally went over Automaxi bars, which were square also. My brother has them now for his focus. Thinking it through, I probably will need something to 'square off' the aero bars to get a good fit. Either that or just go for normal bars.

theres nothing wrong with the normal bars. i just went for the aero because for the extra price and distance travelled with them on i reckoned that one day they may pay for themselves with the lesser wind resistance.

Halfords sell Thule as well. take a nip down and ask them to show you and then buy from somewhere cheaper :)

I have some universal Paddy Hopkirk bars for my Avensis, they are a good fit and don't harm the paint.
