hey guys, could anyone please tell me how to adjust the handbrake cable on my 1992 gen 5 gt, as ive just had new brake disks pads and a new caliper fitted and the handbrake doesnt hold the car on hills, can it be adjusted form inside the car or only from behind the brake disk itself

thanks

I'm not sure if its adjustable in car, but it is certainly adjustable at the shoes end.

there is a hole in the rear brake disc (poss covered with a rubber bung if its still there) and if you turn this so it is closest the floor, and have a look through it with a torch, the turnbuckle adjuster is there, turn it one way to tighten and the other to loosen with a flat bladed screwdriver :)

the full procedure is in the haynes or chiltons, but it really is as simple as that.

You can adjust the handbrake cable at the handbrake. There`s an adjuster nut on the right hand side of the handbrake quadrant. Undo the locknut and simply tighten the adjusting nut. Remember to check the handbrake from time to time. 3 - 7 clicks is ideal.

Same for Gen 6. I removed the centre console to get to it (hidden bolts at the bottom of centre glovebox) Although I think this is only really for minor-ish adjustments, there isn't a huge amount of play on it. Still, reduced the angle of the dangle considerably :P
