Intermittent Loss Of Power

Hey all, after months of getting ****** off with me motor, thought it was time to ask for help.

My gt4 is a weird car some days it pulls like a train and I can't stop smiling and other days it just seems flat.

The boost is always the same, but like I say sometimes it just doesn't pull properly.

Even today for example, on the same journey. I put my foot down and it flew (as it should), but 5 minutes later it didn't.

Anyone had a similar problem or can shed some light on this for me.

I've had it on rollers to be diagnosed, but just my luck, when it was on the rollers it worked properly and everything was fine.

Its really beginning to stress me out.

Any help greatly appreciated.

First off have all of the following been replaced recently i.e. within the last year.

Spark Plugs

HT Leads

Dizzy Cap + Rotor Arm

Fuel Filter

Secondly were you sat it traffic just before the flat periods if so your suffering the loverly effects of heat soak to the charge cooler :ffs: . Basically whenl your sat in traffic all the heat from the engine and turbo heats up the chargecooler as it's sat right on top of the whole lot. This in turn causes the inlet temps to rise and the ecu adjusts fueling and ignition so the engine doesn't blow itself up with det, the result of which is felt as a loss of power. Get away from the traffic and get some air flowing through the bay and the temps will soon drop back down and after a few minutes you feel the car start to pick up again.

Get the chargecooler covered in a few layers of heat shield material and you notice a huge improvement.

It doesn't happen just after sitting in traffic, its normally just when i'm driving along.

The HT leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and plugs were all changed in april, the day I bought the car.

Thought about the fuel filter, as its the only thing That hasn't been done. Were is it?

Thanks

Buried at the back right hand side of the engine bay. Below the charcoal filter if you still have it fitted. Make sure you use good fitting spanners to get it off or you`ll be stuffed.

could also give it a flush through with some injector cleaner, you know the stuff you put in the fuel tank.

Been quoted £90 inc vat for Toyota to change the filter, might just pay it, cos if i damage anything i'll be stuffed, and need the car every day for work.

Tried injector cleaner, again to no avail.

Checked the ecu fualt codes and nothing stored, so am assuming the knock sensor etc is ok.
